It was an event filled with pomp and pageantry today as Achievers University inducts 65 Medical Laboratory students.
The institution also gave automatic employment to two students, Emmanuel Michael Igwe and Faith Gbemisola Ademulegun of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Achievers University Owo.
The students had emerged the two best graduating students of the department having made first class honours and would be employed as graduate assistants.
In his words, the Pro-chancellor and founder of the University, Dr Bode Ayorinde while announcing the employment during the 9th induction ceremony of the 65 newly graduated medical laboratory science students, said the University would continue to encourage students who have carved academic niche for themselves.
Ayorinde added that the institution would continue to provide the necessary infrastructure and equipment for its programmes
"The sum of 100 million naira was recently expended on Nine standard laboratories for medical laboratory science programme.
He urged the students to let integrity be their watchword as they enter the ‘labour market’.
“Do not engage in fraud,” he said.
Ayorinde thanked the federal medical centre (FMC) Owo and other partners of the institution who ensured the students are well trained for the tasks ahead.
The legal practitioner also announced that the University would soon commence Medicine and Aviation programmes.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Sam Aje spoke on the need for the new inductees to bring to bear their knowledge when they become practitioners.
He appreciated their parents for providing the financial support to them in the last five years.
The chief medical director, UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Prof. Peter Olaitan who gave the lecture on “Medical Laboratory Practice in Covid-19 Pandemic”, enjoined the students to be conscious of their conducts in the laboratory, while having it in mind that every blood could be infectious.
Also, the Registrar of Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Dr Tosan Erhabor, urged the new inductees to be punctual to their duty posts whenever they commence practice.
“Under no condition should you be sleeping at home when on duty while your patients are waiting in the hospital,” he said.
He disclosed that the council as part of its contributions to the induction ceremony gave the sum of N50,000 to the two best graduating students of the programme.
