Ondo: Father allegedly burn teenage daughter with Hot Iron for bedwetting

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested one Amos Paul, a resident of Unaun, Upenme, Owo Local Government Area, for allegedly inflicting grievous bodily harm on his 10-year-old daughter. The incident, which was reported to the Police on Thursday, 16th July, 2026, revealed that the suspect allegedly used a hot pressing iron to burn the private part of his daughter, as punishment for bed-wetting. The victim sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, where she is currently receiving medical treatment. Upon receipt of the information, detectives from ‘A’ Division, Owo, swiftly mobilized to the scene, arrested the suspect without delay and took him into custody. The case is being transferred to the Gender Unit for discreet investigation and further necessary action in line with established procedures. NHRC Oyo records over 100 complaints in 6 months- Official

  By Chidinma Ewunonu-Aluko, Ibadan   The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Oyo State Office recorded more than 100 complaints in the last six months, says Mrs Olamide Akintayo, its Head of Investigation. Akintayo disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Ibadan. She said that gender-based violence and child rights violations were the most reported cases. “The highest percentage relates to gender-based violence and child rights violations such as child abuse, sexual violence, defilement, and denial of maintenance; these remain the most prevalent,” she said. She listed other violations reported to include unlawful arrest and detention, law enforcement agencies misconduct, labour related disputes, discrimination, landlord and tenant disputes involving assaults, and violations of the rights of Vulnerable Groups. CPNN promises psychological support for rescued kidnapped Oyo children, teachers

By Chidinma Ewunonu-Aluko, Ibadan   The Child Protection Network Nigeria, (CPNN), Oyo State Chapter, has pledged to support rescued abducted students and teachers with psychosocial and mental health care. The network made this known in a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan, by its State Coordinator, Dr Rosemary Odigbo. The News Agency  of Nigeria (NAN) reports the pupils and teachers  abducted during the attack on Ahoro-Esiele Community, in Oriire Local Government Area (LGA), were rescued on Friday. The victims were abducted on May 15, when heavily armed gunmen invaded the community, kidnapped the pupils, teachers and the principal of the schools. CPNN said the support would aid full recovery and successful reintegration of the victims. “We reaffirm our readiness to provide every necessary psychosocial support, counselling, protection services, and reintegration assistance,” the statement read.
