SSANU FUOYE Remembers Pioneer Leaders 11 Years After Tragic Death

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Branch, has paid tribute to its pioneer chairman, Comrade Olayiwola Ayodele Adelani, and pioneer treasurer, Comrade Kolawole Samuel Oladipo, 11 years after they died in a tragic accident while returning from a national executive meeting of the union in Abuja.

In a remembrance message marking the 11th anniversary of their deaths, SSANU FUOYE described the late union leaders as dedicated comrades whose service, commitment and sacrifice helped lay the foundation for the growth of the branch.

The union said the passage of 11 years had not erased the pain of their loss, noting that the circumstances surrounding their deaths remained a painful reminder of the risks and sacrifices associated with union service.

According to the statement, the two pioneer leaders had embarked on an official union assignment but never returned home, as the fatal accident claimed their lives while they were returning from the national executive meeting in Abuja.

The branch scribe, Comrade Ayomikun Aluko, described the deceased as more than pioneer officers, saying their contributions and commitment to the ideals of the association had left an enduring legacy for present and future generations of members.

“Today, we remember not only how you died, but how you lived, served and gave of yourselves. We remember the vision you carried, the responsibilities you embraced, and the legacy you entrusted to those who would come after you,” the statement said.

SSANU FUOYE added that although the late comrades were no longer physically present, their names remained an integral part of the branch's history and their sacrifices would continue to inspire members.

The union also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the ideals for which the deceased stood, including the defence of workers' dignity, justice, fairness and improved welfare for members.

It said the best way to honour their memory was to preserve the legacy they left behind and continue to uphold the principles of solidarity and service that guided their leadership.

“Eleven years on, we still remember. We still honour. We still carry the torch,” the branch stated.

The union prayed that God would grant the departed leaders eternal rest, adding that their contributions to the association would remain a lasting source of inspiration.

“Gone from our sight, never from our hearts. Your legacy lives on in SSANU FUOYE,” the statement added.
