The University College Hospital, Ibadan has promise to partner with Fire Academy, Nigeria to cushion the negative effect of Fire incident in Nigeria.
Speaking at the inauguration of Fire Academy Nigeria which was held at Oyo State Secretariat, House of Chiefs chambers on Thursday , the Head of General Admin, University College Hospital, Mrs S. O Oki commended the Fire Academy Nigeria, for sensitizing the youth on the need to join the Academy to be trained as a fire Marshal.
She however promised that the University College Hospital, Ibadan, will partner with Federal Academy, Nigeria and ensure students from the University College Hospital are enrolled in the Academy.
In the same vein, the Assistant controller of Immigration service, Oyo state command, Mr I. A umanah, also commended the Fire Academy Nigeria for its noble initiative to commence an aggressive awareness campaign whose adverse effect has reportedly caused erroneous destruction to both public and private properties over the years.
"This has also resulted in colossal waste of the scarce resources for National development being used to rebuild to replace critical national assets affected
"Sources of livelihood of many have often been destroyed thereby compounding the already unemployment situation in the country in addition to the psychological trauma that victims pass through which affect thier mental health
While highlighting the sharing idea of the immigration service, I. A umanah says, the idea is to lay more emphasis on fire prevention by all citizens and there will be a need to take the campaign to all nook and crannies of the country
"There is also the need to intensify the campaign on electronic & Print medium as well, advantages should be taken on various social media platforms.
"it should be made mandatory to have safety officers employed in every public and private organization, institution, Hospital, who should posses the requisite training capacity to function
Newsline NG learnt that Fire Academy was established in 2015 by the Accident prevention group of the University of the Third Age-U3A Nigeria, a Non-conventional University chartered by the Association of international Universities of the Third Age-U3A, Aiuta, France.
It was gathered that the Academy was in partnership with two Foreign Organisation in Ontario, Canada and the Great Britain which are world class Fire institutions and also in partnership with National Directorate of Employment, (NDE), Immigration service, Oyo state command, National Orientation Agency(NOA), Federal fire service, Oyo state command, Nigerian Union of Journalists(NUJ), Oyo state Police Command
In his reaction, the President, Fire Academy Nigeria, Dr Charles Israel Afolabi, appreciated various agencies who were in partnership with Fire Academy, Nigeria for identifying with them in sensitizing the youth on the need to join the academy to be trained as Fire Marshals
He stated that Fire industry is just like other profession, like Accounting, Journalism, Engineering etc, adding that, Fire Academy Nigeria has promised to train many youth to take up careers in the Fire industry in order to close the noticeable skills gap in the Fire services.
"Many people are staying at home now ever than before, because of the Coronavirus pandemic culminating in the more usage of electrical appliances by residents, Fire is everybody's enemy and we must be ready to fight it together"
"People felt drilling, climbing and quenching fire is the only Job available in the Fire industry, we have Fire engineering, Fire research, Fire protection, Fire safety and more embedded in it.
He however appeal to Nigerian youth to come forward to take up career in the Fire industry.
"My people perish, because they lack knowledge, it is the knowledge we want to tell our people. "he said

O Oki, Head of General Admin, University College Hospital, Ibadan (UCH), Mr Olatunji S. G, from National Orientation Agency(NOA), Oyo state command among others
