New Olubadan Gets Staff Of Office

It was an event filled with pomp and pageantry in Ibadan, Oyo State capital as Oba Moshood Olalekan Balogun received the staff of Office as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland

The Staff of office was presented by the Oyo state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde to the new Olubadan, Oba Mohood Olalekan Balogun at Mapo hall Ibadan on Friday. 

Newsline correspondent gathered that high profile political office holders in Nigeria graced the ceremony,  among which are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo ,Former Vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Vice president, among host of others. 

Presenting the staff of office, the Oyo State governor Engineer Seyi Makinde said the presentation of staff of office was in line with constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria.

The governor who said the new monarch possessed the requisite leadership skill to lead in ibadan noted that politicians and custodian of culture should not allow their self will and interest interfere with existing traditional principles.

The governor said "with this coronation, the old traditional pattern of transiting monarchical power in Ibadan had been restored" 

Also speaking, The Vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo said Ibadan occupied vital position, not only in the political history of Nigeria, the unparalleled traditional transition system but also being home to many first institutions.

Professor Osinbajo however congratulated Oba Olalekan Balogun on his assumption of office,saying the new Olubadan would no doubt make his impact more felt in Ibadan,  having tasted politics, academics and public administration. 

In his reactions, the New Olubadan of Ibadanland,Oba Olalekan Balogun appreciated the governor for the kind gesture and pledged not to dissapoint the governor and Ibadan people.

Royal fathers who graced the occasion included ; the Alaafin of Oyo,Oba Lamidi Adeyemi ,Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi,Etsu of Nupe,Yahaya Abubakar, Emir of sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar

Highlight of the event included entertainment of guest by popular Ibadan based musician, Taye Currency
