SSANU Commends FUOYE VC on Infrastructural Development

The National Vice President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU ( Western Zone), Comrade Dr. Abdussobur Olayiwola Salaam, has commended the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye Ekiti, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina for a job well done in the outgone year. 

Salaam also gave kudos to the VC particularly in the area of infrastructural development across the campuses, for subsidizing transport cost for members of staff who shuttle between Ado to Oye and between Ikole and Oye, for staff promotion exercise in 2021 which was smooth and transparent for the first time since the inception of the University, and for the peace and harmony that the university community have been enjoying since Professor Sunday Fasina assumed office.

Comrade Salaam, a senior Registry staff of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta(FUNAAB), and 8-year, two-term Branch Chairman of the Union at  FUNAAB, saluted the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina on his first anniversary in office. 

Comrade Saalam said "Your best is yet to come”, and the University would also continue to grow in leaps and bounds under your administration".

Dr. Salaam appreciated the Acting Registrar, Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim for the role he has been playing in the affairs of the University. 

He noted that having an understanding Vice-Chancellor was evident in the progress FUOYE was currently experiencing. 

He added that there was need to put sustainable staff development scheme in place to enhance efficiency and establishment of Directorate system to lessen the tension associated with career progression and a review of the condition of service. 



In his response,  the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina,  averred that knowledge economy was the panacea to Nigeria's development

Fasina made this assertion during the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) 67th Western Zonal Executive Council Meeting held at the Theatre and Media Arts Auditorium, Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE). 

He stated that knowledge economy was very vital to Nigeria’s development, and therefore, waiver would be given to staff to further their education in the University. 

He added that he believed in making way for people to make progress. He said, "My clerk when I was at the Lagos State Polytechnic is now at the peak of her career"

Speaking on the union request at the Plenary session, Fasina said "the review of the conditions of service is in progress and there will be a continuous support to the families of the fallen heroes of SSANU who lost their lives in the union's struggles.

He reassured that the University Management would continue to engage the executives of all the unions in the university to find a common ground".

The professor of Soil Science showered encomium on the union leaders for the support that he had been receiving from the leadership and members of SSANU and her sister unions since the inception of his administration over a year ago.
  
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, SSANU, FUOYE Branch, Comrade Oyelude Yekeen said that the Union was enjoying a positive and progressive relationship with the University Management to take the University to an enviable height.

He noted that the University Management under the leadership of Professor Fasina had been supportive, understanding, and cooperative with SSANU. 

He prayed that the Vice-Chancellor and his team continue to improve on all successes they had achieved within the last year and in particular, maintenance of cordial relationship with SSANU for the sustenance of the enduring development in the system.

In his solidarity message, the Chairman, Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Allied Institutions (NASU), FUOYE Chapter, Comrade Ayodele  Ojumoola commended the leadership of SSANU for hosting the Zonal meeting in FUOYE. He also pledged the continued support and collaboration of NASU-FUOYE on issues affecting both unions.






Highlight of the event included presentation of award plaques to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina; Registrar, Mr. Muftau Ibrahim; the Acting Director, Servcom, Mr. Toyin Borishade; Deputy Registrar, Mr. Dairo Ayodele Fatuase; Dr. Ikenna Odoh of the University Medical Center; Deputy Director, Audit, Mr. Sulaiman and a senior Bursary staff,  Mr. Wapji.

Among the awardees were the fallen heroes of SSANU, FUOYE Branch, Late Comrade Ayodele Olayiwola who was the pioneer chairman of SSANU FUOYE Branch, and Late Comrade Kolawole, the former Treasurer of the union.


Royal fathers in Ekiti who graced the occasion included,  Oba Ademolaju, The Oloye of Oye Ekiti in absentia; the paramount ruler of Egbeoba, Oba Fasiku,  Elekole of Ikole-Ekiti, represented by High Chief Sayo Okunola (The Olotin of Ilotin); Prince David Omolayo Fasiku (Olori Ebi of Ini Ruling House) and 

Oba Dr. Noah Omonigbehin Okinbaloye II, the Olomuo of Omuo Kingdom who highlighted the importance of education and noted that it was the panacea to poverty and illiteracy not only in Western Nigeria but across Africa.

The paramount rulers advised that the University Management and all the unions in the University community should always dialogue to achieve the vision and missions of the University.
