The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Muhammad Kaku Fadah has disclosed that the Scheme is eagerly awaiting the Presidential assent so that the NYSC Trust Fund bill would become a legal document.
The Director General made the disclosure today while addressing the 2022 Batch 'B' (Stream 1) corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State.
General Fadah asserted that the two chambers of the National Assembly have passed the bill and it will be presented to the Executive arm of the government for final assent by the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
"I want to thank the leadership and the entire members of the two chambers of the National Assembly for the accelerated public hearing on the proposed NYSC Trust Fund bill and its subsequent adoption which will strengthen the operations of the Scheme".
"The history of this great country will be kind to our distinguished Senators and Honourable members of the House of Representatives for their efforts towards ensuring that NYSC continues to discharge her responsibilities to Nigerian graduate youths with renewed commitment".
"My fellow compatriots in the national service, good times awaits us immediately Mr. President assents to the bill because the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme of the Scheme will be enlarged to accommodate more skill sets that will make you independent and job creators".
"I want to encourage you all to keep faith with SAED programme and choose any of the skill sets that will add value and competence to your academic and professional certificates as well as announce you to the world as budding entrepreneurs and fledging industrialists".
The NYSC boss assured corps members of their welfare and safety which he said was non-negotiable.
"As your father and number one Corps member nationwide, I have come to let you know that the Scheme values you a lot and will do everything within the legal framework as entrenched in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, to ensure your adequate protection throughout the period of the service year".
"You have to reciprocate the good gestures of the management of the Scheme by not engaging in negative publicity through online mass media platforms but choose to be different and promote peaceful coexistence and national unity and integration" he noted.
The Director General disclosed that one of his policy thrusts is to deepen the impact of NYSC on rural development through Community Development Service. He promised that his administration will vigorously pursue programmes that would have direct impact on the society.
Fadah, a Nigerian Army Intelligence trained officer warned the corps members not to venture into any act that may bring the soaring image of the Scheme into disrepute but should collaborate with their colleagues to fashion out ways NYSC will remain the best service youth organisation across the globe.
Earlier in her brief to the Director General, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani expressed gratitude to the Director General for shelving other pressing matters to come over to Ondo State to see how his children are faring.
Mrs. Ani said that the corps members have exhibited high sense of discipline since their arrival on camp and are cooperating with camp officials to ensure that the contents of the orientation course are achieved.
"My Director General Sir, I want to let you know that the crop of corps members deployed to Ondo State are disciplined, well behaved and above all, they are supporting the camp management to ensure that the contents of the orientation course are achieved".
"In the same manner Sir, the galaxy of camp officials here are dedicated, supportive and are giving their best in terms of mentorship which has invariably transform the lives of corps members to becoming change agents" she concluded.
