One of the highly cerebral retired Deputy Directors of the National Youth Service Corps, Mrs. Priscilla Akhamie has charged corps members to make commitment their watchword during and after the service year.
Mrs. Akhamie who retired from the Community Development Service and Special Projects Department last year gave the charge during the motivational lecture she delivered to the 2022 Batch 'B' (Stream II) corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko.
The vibrant administrator who served in various NYSC formations before exiting the Public Service said that the assiduity and commitment of the service corps will invariably place them on the path of progress they intend for themselves.
"My intelligent and extremely resourceful corps members, as you all know that attitude determines the altitude of every individual, I want to enjoin you to always put up positive attitude and be focused so that your dreams will come to reality and your heart desires fulfilled. Make this one year service to the nation very impactful so that when you leave at the end of it all, the host communities would continue to have fond memories of what you have done".
The trained Psychologist averred that the Federal Government of Nigeria placed a high premium on corps members because of their invaluable contributions to the nation-building and urged them to be advocates of crime reduction.
"It is an undisputed fact that crime rate of varying degrees have taking over activities in the country but because of the huge investment the Federal Government through NYSC places on you, you have to be an agent of change and good ambassadors not only to your families and NYSC but to the society at large. You have to work assiduously with relevant government agencies as well as Non-Governmental Organisation to reduce crime in our society".
She continued, 'if crimes of various shades are combated through your aggressive sensitisation awareness and advocacy campaign, you would have justified the confidence the society reposed in you'.
On the skill acquisition, the no nonsense mentor of youths across the nation admonished the corps participants to fully embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme which the Scheme introduced ten years ago and make their future an admirable one.
"We shall not but continue to talk with our shoulders raised high about the intervention introduced by the NYSC management to make every corps member that passes through the Scheme to have a good and solid foundation that will guarantee their future. Select the skills that you have passion for and you are on your way to stardom and a force to reckon with in business or entrepreneurial world".
The senior citizen encouraged the newest members of the NYSC big family to be kind and employ the use of positive words on individuals which according to her is capable of empowering and motivating the concerned to be responsible citizens of Nigeria.
The Deputy Director rounded up her well articulated lecture with a musical track from the Jimmy Cliff album THE EMI YEARS titled 'Born to Win' during which the old dance steps of the retired but not tired Deputy Director was re-enacted.
The State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani during her brief introductory remarks informed the senior citizen that the corps members are special breed because of their intelligence and adaptability level.
The State Coordinator thanked the Motivational speaker for agreeing to come over to Ondo State to impact the young Nigerians whose activities were at a low as a result of challenges facing the country.
Mrs. Ani, while describing the corps members as a lucky set, appealed to them to listen attentively and savour the wealth of experience and knowledge of the cerebral, hardworking and remarkable senior citizen.
