Arikawe, Fapetu, Abu, Others Elected as Rufus Giwa Poly ASUP Leaders

The Academy Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO) chapter, has elected new executive to manage the affairs of the union for the next two years.

This is coming three years after the management of the institution dissolved ASUP in the school.

Comrade Arikawe Samuel Ade of the Library and Information Science Department was elected as the Chairman, Comr Eleduma Ajayi Festus was elected as the Vice Chairman while Comr, (Lion) Fapetu Oluwadamilola Victor, popularly known as "Lion" was elected as the General Secretary.


Others include Comr Giwa Oluwamodupe as the Treasurer; Comr Ajayi Ayorinde as the Public Secretary; Comr Abu Stephen Olatubunso as the Financial secretary and  Comr Amodu Olayinka as the Welfare officer while Comr (Pst) Daudu Babalola was elected as the Internal Auditor.


The new Chairman Arikawe polled a total of 89 votes to defeat his closet rivals,  Mr Akinrolabu Dare Raphael who scored 77 votes and Mr  Ogunbode Akintoye Benson who had  69 votes.


Also, the new General Secretary, Comrade Fapetu Oluwadamilola Victor polled a total of 134 votes to defeat his two rivals,  Mr Musa Toyyib Olaniyi who had 45 votes while Mr  Ogidan Olajide Felix scored 49 votes.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Comrade Ade Arikawe promised harmonious working relationship with the Rector of the institution, Mr Gani Ogundahunsi, towards the actualization of its goals. 

To him, ASUP as a labour union under his leadership, will without compromising the protection of its members’ rights ensure that RUGIPO is well positioned to achieve greater heights, urging the management to work towards revival of staff development policy, provision of conducive learning environment for staff and students amongst others.

He said: "The reinstatement of Comrade Ijawoye and the welfarism of members will be my priority. My adminstration will adopt intellectual and analytical unionism that is avoidance unnecessary confrontation with the authorities of the institution", Arikawe stressed.

Arikawe who described education as a strategic development and success, thanked the state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (SAN), for his giant strides in the school including adequate provision of facilities for learning in the polytechnic. 

 The ASUP chairman also appreciated the management and staff of the institution for counting him and his executive members worthy for the various positions.

"I also want to thank the national leadership of ASUP led by the national president, Mr Anderson Ezeibe, and my brother, friend and boss, Comrade Ijawoye Rafiu, for their support which ultimately led to my victory at all poll".

Also speaking with Accurate Newspaper, the new Financial Secretary, Comr (Pastor) Abu Stephen Olatubunso said the new leadership will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the vision of its founding fathers of the oldest institution in Ondo State is realized.

While reacting on the election process, the new General Secretary, Comr, (Lion) Fapetu Oluwadamilola Victor, explained that the process was free, fair and credible.
