The Oyo Tourism Board and Oyo State Hoteliers Association will in March begin the second phase of their sensitisation project aimed at facilitating development in the tourism sector.
The board and the association made this known in a communique they issued on Saturday in Ibadan.
The communique was signed by the Oyo State Tourism Board Chairman, Chief Adebowale Adejumobi, and the President Oyo State Hoteliers Association, Mr Ayodele Ogundele.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the tourism board and association, under the Oyo State Tourism and Hospitality Development Project, started a state-wide sensitisation programme in November 2022, across all the 33 local government areas.
Many hotels, guest house owners and night club owners, among others, participated in the programme.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Nigerian Immigration Service, Department of State Services, among others, were collaborating in the project.
The project is aimed at awakening the consciousness of hotel owners on the dangers of drug use, cyber crime, human trafficking, other vices and issues.
According to the board and association, the second phase will cover 11 local governments areas in and around Ibadan, which were not covered in the first phase.
They warned that any hospitality organisation in Oyo State yet to conclude its registration processes was at the risk of sanctions.
They urged hotels yet to join the association to do so to enable all hoteliers to speak with one voice and access more bebefits.
The Oyo State Tourism and Hospitality Development Project is a project under the Oyo State Tourism Board saddled with the responsibility of creating diverse development initiatives and strategies in the tourism Sector. (NAN)
