In the past week, the media was awash with news stories on the suspension of the Chairman of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, Hon. Goke Jatuwase, for alleged gross misconduct, lack of transparency in the council’s Internally Generated Revenue and other misdemeanours.
It was observed that some blogs which included the popular People's Gazette and one Withinnigeria misrepresented the image of the suspended council boss with that of Ondo State House of Assembly Candidate on the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ilaje Constituency 1, Barr. Fade Ojamomi, which has made his team issue a rebuttal.
This was contained in the press release signed by the Director General, The Fade Ojamomi Campaign Organization (FOCO), Hon. Ajimuda Omotere, where it was stated that the image of their principal used in the news stories published by Peoples Gazette and Withinnigeria blog was a total misrepresentation as Barr. Ojamomi is different from the Ilaje suspended council boss.
The statement reads: "The Fade Ojamomi Campaign Organization (FOCO), has a received distress calls and messages over the weekend owing to the publications made by a popular blog and news agency “Peoples Gazette” as well as one "Withinnigeria". The People's Gazette publication was posted on Twitter and other social media platforms on the 27th day of January 2023.
"The image of the leading candidate and Ilaje born Legal Practitioner, Fadeshola Ojamomi of the Social Democratic Party was flying all over the media since the 27th day of January 2023 with the Caption “ Councillor sack LG Chairman in Ondo Over fraud and abuse of office” which attracted detestable comments. The said publication was published on Twitter with the handle “@GazetteNGR” owned by People's Gazette.
"We want to state unequivocally state that Fade Ojamomi is distinctly different from the allegedly sacked LG Chairman of Ilaje Local Government, Hon. Ojatuwase. Hon. Barr. Fadeshola Ojamomi is our preferred candidate and SDP flag bearer vying to represent Ilaje Constituency 1 at the Ondo State House of Assembly elections come 2023 and does not in any way look like the “sacked” LG boss."
The Campaign Organization reiterated that Barr. Fade Ojamomi is a law abiding citizen who has clean records.
According to the DG "We want to emphatically state that Barr. Fade Ojamomi is a law abiding citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and has never been found wanting. This is a grave misrepresentation on the part of Peoples Gazette and other blogs/media outlets and does not in any way reflect the character of our amiable and people friendly incoming MHA.
"We hereby appeal to the general public to disregard any deliberate attempt by the fifth columnists to hide under a media gaffe orchestrated by the enemies of Ilaje Nation and Ugbo Kingdom as Barr. Ojamomi is more committed to liberating the people of his constituency from the political bondage it has been plunged into in the last 7yrs and more. The Ilaje people of the Ugbo extraction desired a paradigm shift and has requested for a perfect replacement.
"Our supporters are therefore encouraged to go about their lawful businesses and duties as our legal team has commenced appropriate action and legitimate step in seeking redress for the unprofessional journalism displayed by People’s Gazette." Hon. Ajimuda added
