The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) INEC Oyo State Dr Adeniran Rahmon has commended the role of the National Youth Service Corps in ensuring free and credible election in the country.
Dr Adeniran gave the commendation when the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mr Odoba Abel Oche paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Ibadan.
The REC lauded General Yakubu Gowon and the founding fathers of the NYSC Scheme for their vision in establishing it and described the NYSC as one of the Nigerian most successful organization that is still standing.
Commending the efforts of the corps members in the past, he also assured that the corps members who would be participating in the forth coming general elections would be given adequate security cover.
He urged the NYSC Management to sensitize the corps members to remain firm, focused and also shun any form of electoral malpractices.
Earlier the State Coordinator NYSC Oyo State, Mr Odoba Abel Oche , stated that his visit was to familiarize himself with the Management of INEC.
He pointed out that since the signing of the memorandum of understanding MOU between INEC and NYSC Scheme, they have been regarded as one of the most important stakeholders.He however used the opportunity to request that adequate security be provided for corps members during the elections.
Odoba said the scheme has done the needful by sensitizing the corps members in the 33 local government areas of Oyo State and INEC officials had also trained the corps members especially on the newly introduced BVAS to make their assignment seamless.
