Glitz in Ekiti as Oyebanji Commissions Ikole Local Government Town Hall

The First Lady of Ekiti State, Her Excellency, Dr (Mrs) Olayemi Oyebanji on Wednesday, 24th May 2023, in Ikole Ekiti lauded the Olominu administration for the Widows Foundation. 

Newsline NG learnt that the Widows foundation, an initiative of the Local Government administration was geared towards the welfare and wellbeing of widows in Ikole Local Govt Area. 

Dr (Mrs) Olayemi Oyebanji while commissioning the Ikole Local Government town hall congratulated the Executive Chairman of Ikole Local Government, Honourable Sola Olominu for the various projects completed and commissioned during his tenure.

 "It is a very good initiative to have brought the widows into perspective. I am planning with my team to start a foundation that will look into the welfare of widows and orphans across the State". 

"We have collected data of the widows and we have over 18,000 widows across the State, these widows are special to God and we must look into their welfare." the First Lady promised.

She however urged other Council Chairmen to emulate the good works of Olominu, saying that they have no excuse not to perform, 

"Our governor is always ready to listen to us as they are the closest to the grassroots. 

Earlier, Her Excellency had commissioned the local government chairman's quarters and the just-renovated legislative building by the Executive Chairman.

Hon. Sola Olominu while speaking at the event applauded Dr (Mrs) Olayemi Oyebanji for creating an enabling environment for Local governments and Local Council Development authorities to thrive.

"Today marks an important landmark in the annals of Ikole Local Government. So far my 18 months of administration have been eventful and filled with landmark projects and initiatives."

"Today, we are commissioning the reconstructed and renovated Ikole Town Hall, renovated Ikole LG official Chairman's Quarter, and erection and installation of 170 units of solar street lights," the. Chairman said 

"The success of these projects is attributed to the undiluted support of the State government coupled with the prompt release of funds to the local governments in the state by Governor Oyebanji 


Olominu however reiterated his commitment to domesticate the 6-point agenda of Mr governor and enjoined everyone to join hands with the present government and expect more dividends of democracy.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) Chairman in Ekiti State, Barrister Paul Omotoso in his remarks congratulated Olominu for the great feat attained and encouraged him to keep it up,

"I am always happy seeing Olominu, he is worthy of commendation, When we campaigned, we campaigned on the integrity and character of Mr. governor, today you are witnessing the achievements." 


He enjoined the people of the LG and State in its entirety to pray for the success of the Biodun Oyebanji led administration.

In the same vein,  a Former speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Patrick Ajigbolamu was full of praises for the Chairman for renovating the heritage of the Local Government most especially the town hall that had been left moribund for years. 

A widow, Mrs Comfort Omolade who spoke on behalf of other widows, appreciated the Chairman for keeping to his promise of support towards them. She urged the Chairman to ignore sycophants and continue his good work.  

Present at the project commissioning were, HRM Oba Ezekiel Awe Oloojebu of Ijebu Agege; Pastor Cornelius Erinle, Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, Ikole LG, party stalwarts, religious leaders, leaders of Okada Riders Association in the LG, the Iyalojas and other stakeholders.

Newsline NG however gathered that, Projects orchestrated by the Olominu administration in Ikole Local Government in the last Eighteen months, included, the provision of sporting kits for the Ikole LG U-13 football team, reconnection of the Ara Ekiti community to the national grid, construction of a modern neighbourhood market "Shasha"

Others included; Grading of the new Idemo road linking Federal University Oye Ekiti Part-Time programme in Ikole Ekiti, construction of 35 lockup shops, payment for forms for 100 indigenous candidates to enrol at Government Technical College, and repair of a borehole water facility at Odo-Oro Ekiti, to mention but a few.
