As political gladiators gear up for the race for the number one helmsman in Ondo State government, It is imperative to delve into the chronicles of the most outstanding aspirant, Mr Wale Akinterinwa. WA, as he is fondly called by his numerous supporters, admirers and the politically conscious people in general, is the most outstanding aspirant among the contenders for the highly coveted office. He possesses the requirements in attributes and political resume which make him stand tallest.
Wale Akinterinwa is a corporate finance professional with strong Finance and Accounting background with over thirty years of excellent managerial and strategic leadership, mentoring, experience and entrepreneurial prowess in investment banking, project finance management, real estate development, and public sector engagement. Over the years, he has demonstrated remarkable success in implementing strategic initiatives in and with private and public sectors with substantive result of improving their financial fortunes. WA has conscientiously pioneered the restructuring and repositioning of government parastatal into a very efficient, productive, and self-reliant organization.
His outstanding performance and track record, not only as Commissioner for Finance, but in other areas of governance and administration has singled him out as the 'candidate to beat'. To provide more context, In 1999, he was appointed the Special Assistant, Finance, Investment, and Strategy at Lagos State Development and Property Corporation, where he played a key role in the restructuring and refurbishment of the Lagos State Property Development Corporation which saw the state agency improve significantly in its performance. His strategic initiatives birthed most of the government housing estates that changed the landscape of Lagos State during the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and subsequent administrations, while efficiently managing existing ones for profitability.
Wale Akinterinwa was sworn in as Commissioner for Finance in Ondo State in 2009 by Dr. Olusegun Mimiko where he displayed exemplary professional skills with his fiduciary obligations. WA's refined integrity, sense of loyalty, management style and reliable leadership skills with suave of professionalism endeared him to Governor Akeredolu which occasioned his re-appointment in 2017 and 2021. These outstanding qualities have since placed him in five-star and unassailable hierarchical prominence in this current administration.
His selfless commitment to assignments and cause that benefit the masses is unprecedented. It attests to his altruistic personality and ascetic nature with public funds. The bi-partisan disposition of WA rekindles the hope, that of a truth, there can be dividends of democracy without deploying state resources to gag dissenting voices. Despite being in the ruling party, he has unified the leaders and elders of opposition parties in Ile-oluji through his unbeatable public personage such that there has been massive alignment with his vision and unalloyed support for his ambition from the axis. I am optimistic that the above statement will be of good if it's really so, but I am putting it to the writer that reverse is the case, WA should try as hard as possible to make deep party reconciliation in his Local government, particularly in his hometown.
