PRESS STATEMENT
We read with dismay, a write up fabricated by some purveyors of wrong narratives with the intention to mislead and discourage the staunch supporters of our leading Aspirant, Hon. Ife Ehindero. The statement was deliberately tailored to wrongly echo to the public that Ehindero cannot participate in the By-election for Akoko North East and North West Federal Constituency vacant seat in the House of Representatives.
The write-up obviously short of accurate information also claimed that seven aspirants jostling for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket had joined forces with one Hon. Olumide Araoyinbo, stating literally that some party leaders have dropped Ife Ehindero for Araoyinbo and that Ife Ehindero cannot exercise his franchise basically because he is from the same Constituency with the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
For the purpose of clarity for the general public, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, who had earlier won the Reps Seat, is from Akoko North West Local Government Area and would have spent another complete term of four years if our benevolent President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is a known rewarder of labour, had not taken unrestrained interest in him (BTO) to help solidify his Renewed Hope Agenda by appointing him as a Minister.
Since Tunji-Ojo's second term as a legislator spanned just 2months, unarguably his Constituency should retain same seat for the apparent sake of equity and fairness. Rationally, the Constituency that won the general election should keep the seat.
Therefore, it is laughable to read in the same write-up that Ife Ehindero is not qualified to contest basically because he shares same Constituency with the Minister.
It is also imperative we clarify that Ife Ehindero was never endorsed by the group who claimed it had withdrawn its support for him. How can you withdraw what was never given in the first instance?
It is an indisputable fact that the umpire itself (INEC) has not even released any guidelines for the said By-election. Therefore, any insinuations of illegal disenfranchisement is not only against the law, but laughable.
Interestingly, we keenly observed that the social media is not flooded with the news that seems juicy to the purveyors that Ehindero had been dropped for another person, a major reason why the public urgently needs to be wary of the wrong narratives in this sensitive period.
Nobody can disenfranchise Ife Ehindero because he's evidently a man of many parts as he had set new records, carved a niche for himself and has impacted several lives in his almost 39 years of existence.
However, while we urge the public to be wary of misinformation from mischief makers, we want to remind the people of Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency that Ife is focused and will engage key stakeholders in no distant time after INEC rolls out its time-table for the election.
