The Director, NYSC Southwest Area Office 1, Mrs. Olubukola Oluwaremilekun Abiodun has admonished members of the service corps to remain disciplined so that their attitude will continue to enhance the corporate image of the Scheme.
The Director gave the admonition when she addressed the 2025 Batch ''A' (Stream 1) corps members deployed to Ondo State and their counterparts dislodged from Lagos State.
Abiodun, while asserting that discipline is a pathway to achieving greatness in life, appealed to the corps members not to see their conferred status as an avenue to misbehave at their various places of primary assignment and host communities.
She said that humility should be their watchword as it would open a vista of opportunities to them during the service year, revealing that their predecessors who hearken to the advice are enjoying the benefits of their participation in the laudable Scheme.
On security, the amiable admiinistrator boldly told the members of the service corps that no one will secure them than they would
"My dear children in the national service, I want to admonish you to protect your lives wherever you are posted to. Try all you can not to disclose your movements and route to people around you and always be conscious of people around you".
She encouraged them to report promptly suspicious activities within their locality to law enforcement agencies whose contacts are contained in the Service Guide shared to them during their registration process.
Abiodun, who once served as State Coordinator in Edo State, charged them to maintain the relationships they started at the camp, saying that the essence and objective of the noble Scheme is to foster unity and promote integration.
While speaking on her area of specialisation, which is Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, she spoke passionately, on the skill sub sets and encouraged them to embrace the intervention and follow their passion which in the nearest future, will announce them to the world.
The Director encouraged full participation in the SAED programme, both in-camp and post-camp phases, highlighting it as a key to empowering youth for self-reliance.
"Gentlemen corps members, I rejoice with you for coming this far, but I need to let you know that responsibility is higher on you now. No one may be willing to give you money again, as people at home are looking forward to seeing you bring money to them and upgrade their lives, and this can only be possible through SAED; Key into it now and you will realise that the future is already at your feet and the world will celebrate you in due course.
She cautioned against illegal acts, stating, 'NYSC is not a bulletproof for crime. If you engage in unlawful activities, the law will take its full course '.
The Director overseeing the NYSC formations in Ekiti, Ondo and Osun states respectfully pleaded with them to shun frivolous journeys but remain where they are posted and serve the nation conscientiously.
Abiodun further advised the corps members to familiarise themselves with NYSC publications, particularly the Service Guide, to help them navigate the service year effectively. She warned against paying for posting or relocation, urging them to accept their posting in good faith.
"Respect the cultural values of your host communities, be modest in your interactions, and observe the needs of your community to proffer solutions through Community Development Service (CDS)" she added.
"I do not intend to frighten you, but it is imperative that I let you know that we lose more corps members through road traffic accidents, but I pray this will not be your portion. NYSC frowns at frivolous journeys, and I plead with you to remain safe and sound, so that at the end of your service year, we shall hand you over to your respective families and loved ones hale and hearty" she concluded.
In her welcome address, the NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare reported that the registered corps members, both of Ondo and Lagos states, have been adapting to the camp regimented life since the commencement of the orientation course.
Speaking on healthcare, the Coordinator stated that the Camp Clinic was running effectively under the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), with medical personnel from the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, providing care. She added that measures to prevent contagious diseases had been implemented, including the provision of Veronica buckets, liquid soap and hand washing stations across the camp.
The NYSC Ondo State boss also highlighted recent infrastructural improvements in the camp, including the construction of a new septic tank, procurement of benches for the auditorium and replacement of damage water pipes.
The State Coordinator outlined the challenges of the camp, which included inadequate hostel accommodation for both corps members and camp officials. She appealed for utility vehicles, which, according to her, has made the Secretariat take far-reaching decisions by writing the State Government and other critical stakeholders for assistance.
In her usual generous manner, the Director, NYSC Southwest Area Office 1 rewarded handsomely some categories of corps members while selected corps members formed the cultural troupe that entertained the visiting Director.
The visit was concluded with an inspection of camp facilities and a reaffirmation of NYSC's commitment to youth development and national integration
