The National Productivity Centre (NPC), an agency under the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, delivered an enlightening lecture on the importance of productivity in personal and national development.
The lecture, held at the NYSC Oyo Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin, for 2025 Batch A Stream 2 Corps Members was facilitated by Mr. Sulaiman Abdulmajid, who spoke on the topic “Productivity.”
Mr. Abdulmajid introduced the National Productivity Centre as a federal agency headquartered in Abuja, with the mandate to promote productivity consciousness and improvement across all sectors of the Nigerian economy.
In his presentation, he explained that productivity has multiple perspectives. From the social perspective, he defined productivity as the continuous effort to become better than one was the day before. He encouraged Corps Members to adopt daily productivity habits such as maintaining checklists and applying a scale of preference to prioritize tasks efficiently.
He also discussed the integrated perspective, which emphasizes effectiveness and efficiency, highlighting the importance of utilizing available resources wisely to achieve desired goals. According to him, productivity is about doing things the right way, not just doing things quickly.
Mr. Abdulmajid stressed that productivity is essential for fostering competitiveness, finesse, and excellence, while noting that achieving excellence often requires going beyond the bare minimum and delivering with intentionality and precision.
To provide a practical guide for applying productivity principles, he outlined the following key steps commonly used in business and organizational settings: Business Planning, Planning, Feasibility Study, Budgeting, Execution, and Keeping Records
He concluded by urging Corps Members to embrace a productivity mindset, stating that by improving their efficiency and output, they contribute meaningfully to national growth and personal success.
In another development, Dr. Abimbola Amao, representative of Chartered Institute of Strategic Research(CISR), has introduced their organization which are saddle with the responsibility of providing innovative development among the youth and building of capacity skills through professional education which are done through online and offline courses which are offered national and international courses.
According to Mr Abimbola, the organization secured skills acquisition to be a certified national and international strategic administrator and professional mentorships through personal development and activity.
"This organization sensitizes the Corp members on how they can get certified with extra certificate which are equivalent to PHD, Msc and others, through the courses offered by the organization."
He reeled out the available courses which include: digital marketing, research content development, analyze management, Financial technology and administration strategies and registration for each course is #500 and #18000 for each courses application which are efficient and reliable.
He therefore urged Corp members to partake in the registration and get certified by the chartered institute of strategic research.
