The Director General, National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General OO Nafiu has encouraged Corps members mobilised to Oyo State for the one year mandatory national service to take the bull by the horn and take the nation to a greater future as the survival of Nigeria rest on their shoulders.
He gave this word of encouragement while addressing the 2025 Batch A Stream 2 Corps members during his working visit to the NYSC Oyo State Permanent Orientation camp, Iseyin.
The DG, who was enthusiastically received by the Corps members, congratulated them for fulfilling all the conditions that qualified them for national service. He described national service as a clarion call that needed to be answered with high sense of patriotism, commitment and dedication.
The NYSC Boss enjoined the Corps members to join hands and play active role in nation building, stating that no place can be like home and no foreigner will build our country for us. He emphasized the importance of the role Nigerian youth have to play in shaping the future of the nation and the need for them to be dedicated, selfless, and committed to serving it.
He described the significance of the Scheme to the nation as a melting pot that promotes unity in diversity, while entreating the Corps Members to judiciously utilise this opportunity to build bridges, friendship and relationships across tribes and ethnic groups in Nigeria. He equally enjoined them to integrate freely, enjoy and respect the culture of their host communities.
Brig.Gen Nafiu tasked the Corps members to take the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program seriously and be committed to it. He reiterated the unrelenting commitment of NYSC towards creating funding opportunities for Corps members through partnership with financial institutions such as, CBN, BOI, Access Bank, Wema Bank, amongst others.
The DG urged them to be prudent in spending their allowance and cultivate the culture of saving no matter how little.He also advised them to begin to plan for their post service year from now and save themselves from endless search for white-collar jobs. He equally admonished the Corps members to be of good conduct, represent and promote the good image of the Scheme.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Coordinator, NYSC, Oyo State, Mr. Kayode Ola Peters appreciated the Director General for the visit.He intimated him with the happenings and events that have taken place at the orientation camp, adding that the set of Corps members mobilised to Oyo State have been wonderful.
Highpoint of the Director General's visit was the display of cultural dances by the NYSC cultural troupe and presentation of a token of appreciation to some set of Corps Members who formed various teams in camp.
