For many brides, their wedding day is the most beautiful day of their lives. But for Temitope Animasaun, CEO and Creative Director of NAKT Garments and Fashion School, it was almost ruined — by a broken promise and a crushed dream — all thanks to a wedding dress that never came… until 2 a.m. on her big day.
Now a successful fashion entrepreneur based in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Temitope says the bitter experience of being disappointed by her tailor on her wedding eve has shaped her unshakable work ethic and life mission:

“It happened in 2018,” she recalled, “I had paid in full, three months ahead, and was assured again and again that my wedding gown was ready. I was told it was being brought from Lagos to Ilorin. I trusted her.”
But as the days narrowed into hours, panic crept in. “We kept calling. She kept lying. My heart was shattered when I found out the dress wasn’t even finished,” she said. “I broke down in tears.”
Temitope had already paid for a hotel suite for her bridal prep, but it ended up being used by only her maid of honour. “I couldn’t stay there. I was too devastated. I had to leave and go stay with her,” she added, her voice still tinged with disbelief.
Then — like a cruel joke — the gown finally arrived at 2 a.m. on the wedding day. But even then, it was incomplete. “It needed last-minute fixes. I was exhausted, emotionally drained, and just had to manage it,” she said.
But that heartbreak became a turning point.
“That night taught me a lesson I’ll never forget,” Temitope said. “That’s why every client I work with is like my own bride. I deliver before deadlines. I don’t give excuses. I don’t sleep if a job isn’t done.”
