NYSC Warns Corps Members Ahead of Annual Egungun Festival in Ibadan

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Oyo State has issued a warning to all Corps members serving in Ibadan about the upcoming annual traditional Egungun (Oloolu) festival.

The festival is scheduled to take place from Monday, July 28th to Thursday, July 31st, 2025.

In a statement made available to Newsline NG, The Head Information & Public Relations Unit, Faniyi Abimbola (Mrs) strongly advised all our corps members especially female Corps members to abide by this tradition

The statement reads in parts, "This is to inform all Corps members serving in Ibadan that the annual traditional Egungun (Oloolu) festival has been scheduled to hold from Monday 28th  –  Thursday 31st July, 2025 .

"As part of the longstanding cultural traditions, the masquerade would pass through Oje, Gate, Oja-Oba, Ayeye, Orita-merin, Beere, Oranyan, Idi-arere, Agugu, Oke-Aremo, Oremeji, Olubadan Palace amongst other routes.

"It is forbidden for females/women to see the masquerade. Therefore, we strongly advise all our female Corps members to abide by this tradition whenever the masquerade is passing through your areas.

"Corps members are also advised to avoid any gathering around the masquerade’s  designated routes during the festival. Do not attempt to film or photograph the masquerade or in anyway attempt to question or challenge the rites of this tradition. Comply with local advice and instructions from community leaders and security personnel.

"We also use this medium to appeal to the leadership of transport unions in Oyo State to direct all their members not to carry our Corps members and prospective Corps members through dangerous routes during the festival.

"Please take to these precautionary measures, as the management of the National Youth Service Corps, Oyo State under the leadership of Mr. Kayode Ola Peters remain committed to your welfare and safety.
