FUOYE Honours Late SSANU's Pioneer Chair, Treasurer

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) branch, has held a memorial lecture in honour of its pioneer Chairman and Treasurer, who tragically lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident along the Abuja–Lokoja road while returning from a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

Delivering the memorial lecture titled: Leadership in Service:  Sustaining  the legacy of Commitment and Sacrifice in the Labour Movement, the National President of SSANU, ably represented by Comrade Aguda, emphasised unity and cooperation between the University Management and the Union for the overall development of the institution.

In his words,  “The late comrades did not plan to die; they had a vision for a better FUOYE, they wanted a thriving union and an institution where justice reigns. But ask yourself, is this the SSANU and FUOYE they died for?”

He urged all stakeholders to allow peace to reign within the University community, noting that progress can only be achieved in an atmosphere of harmony and mutual respect.

Also, the representative of the University Governing Council, Mr.Ogwilaya Sunny, alongside Barr. Maxwell Gowon, appreciated the SSANU National President for his insightful lecture and called on the FUOYE branch of the Union to continue promoting peace and understanding for the betterment of the institution.

He described the Council Chairman as a man of honour and vision, who works tirelessly to ensure that FUOYE attains global recognition. 

He assured that the Council will take into consideration the recommendations from the President’s lecture.

The FUOYE SSANU Branch Chairman expressed deep appreciation to the University Governing Council , President of SSANU, Comrade Haruna Mohammed Ibrahim for their presence at the memorial lecture in honour of the fallen heroes, as well as to all staff and union members who attended the significant event.

He also acknowledged the SSANU Vice President (Western Zone) Comrade . Dr. Abdussobur Olayiwola Salaam, and representatives from BOUESTI, FUTA, and EKSU SSANU branches.


Highlighting some of the branch’s recent achievements, he mentioned the approval of relocation allowances, the successful conduct of the 2025 promotion exercise, and other numerous accomplishments under the current administration.

In an emotional moment, the children of the deceased expressed heartfelt gratitude to the University Council, Management, FUOYE SSANU, and all individuals who supported them financially and morally. They prayed for God’s blessings upon everyone who stood by their families during their difficult times.




In her vote of thanks, The Branch Scribe, Comrade Ayomikun Aluko, reiterated the union's dedication to upholding truth and justice.
 
"We are advocating for justice. Whenever SSANU opposes management, it is a stance against injustice," she further said
