The community of Ibore in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State, gathered today to pay their last respects as the burial ceremony for their distinguished elder, Late Mr. Andrew Ehichioya Usifoh, commenced.
Late. Usifoh, who passed away at the respected age of 89, was laid to rest in a solemn ceremony that drew family members, friends, and community leaders to his residence at Afumemen Quarters.
The Usifoh family of Afumemen Quarters, who issued the official invitation, described the deceased as a beloved figure—a son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and brother.
His passing has created a profound void within the lineage and the broader community, reflecting a life marked by longevity and dedication to his family's continued growth across generations.
The funeral rites began promptly this morning, Friday, October 31, 2025, a date chosen for the core burial proceedings.
The day's events started with the removal of the body from Okito Mortuary in Eidenu Irrua, which proceeded to his ancestral home at Afumemen Quarters by 10 am. The short procession marked a poignant moment of transition as the elder made his final journey home.
The emotional climax of the day arrived at 12 noon with the Funeral Rite and Interment. This sacred event took place on the family compound, fulfilling the tradition of burying the respected patriarch among his people. The gravity of the ceremony underscored the significant legacy left behind by a man who witnessed nearly nine decades of history and progress in his hometown.
The ceremonies are, however, far from complete. Tomorrow, Saturday, November 1, 2025, the community will transition from sorrow to a celebration of life, marked by a grand Social Dance.
This event, scheduled to take place at the Ibore Primary School Field, is anticipated to host scores of guests traveling from various parts of the state and beyond, honoring Mr. Usifoh’s memory with music and festivity.
To conclude the three-day tribute, a formal Thanksgiving Service is planned for Sunday, November 2, 2025. The family and mourners will convene at The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Ibore District Centre, to offer gratitude for the long and impactful life lived by the deceased and to pray for the repose of his soul and the strength of the bereaved family.
The coordination of the ceremony is being managed by key family members, including Mr. James Usifoh, Mr. Godday Usifoh, and Bar. I. O. Usifoh, who serve as the principal contacts (R.S.V.P.).
Their efforts ensure that the arrangements for this significant rite of passage are executed seamlessly, allowing the entire community a proper opportunity to honor a truly respected elder.
