The Bobaselu of Odigbo Kingdom, Chief Akindele Omole, FCA, on Monday donated a snooker board to the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council.
Speaking during the official presentation ceremony at the NUJ Press Centre in Akure, Chief Omole said the gesture was part of his commitment to supporting journalists in the state and promoting their well-being.
According to him, journalists play a crucial role in shaping society, and providing recreational facilities is one way of encouraging them to relax and stay refreshed for the demanding nature of their duties.
The Chartered Accountant noted that the donation was also his personal way of strengthening the relationship between the traditional institution and the media.
Reacting, the Chairman of the NUJ Ondo State Council, Prince Leke Adegbite, expressed gratitude to the Bobaselu for the thoughtful gesture. He described Chief Omole as a consistent supporter of the union and commended him for always identifying with journalists in the state.
Adegbite added that the snooker board would further enhance the recreational section of the Press Centre and provide journalists with a healthy way to unwind after work.
He urged other well-meaning individuals and organisations to emulate Chief Omole’s goodwill.
The event was attended by members of the NUJ State Executive Council and other stakeholders.
The donation also signals the commencement of the game of Billiards (Snooker) as part of games listed for the ongoing 2025 NUJ Press Week Games.
