Pastors of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) have urged Nigerians to embrace purity to unlock their true potential and God’s purpose for their lives.
They made the remarks in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ibadan, in commemoration of World Sexual Purity Day on Friday.
NAN reports that World Sexual Purity Day is commemorated annually on Nov. 14 to promote sexual purity as a virtue, especially according to biblical teachings.
The Pastor of RCCG Solution Center, Ibadan, Mrs Oluronke Esan, urged everyone—especially the youth—to uphold not only sexual purity but purity in all aspects of their lives in order to overcome the forces of darkness.
According to Esan, purity is the pathway to confidence and true freedom, which empowers an individual to stay focused on their goals and values.
She added that living pure attracts positive energies and like-minded individuals.
“Purity gives us confidence and boldness to face the forces of darkness. It makes us to become kings and priests that God bestowed upon us as we become His children by salvation.
“Most importantly, purity brings heavenly powers to intervene in any battle of life .
“Above all, consequences of impurity can linger on for a long time until mercy prevails,” Esan said.
Pastor Francis Oghuma, the Province Evangelist of RCCG Oyo Province 4, described sexual purity as a period set apart from sexual immorality.
Oghuma stated that it could be a period of maintaining moral integrity and living according to God’s standards for ideal sexual behaviour.
He noted that impurity is closely linked to unguided social immorality, various vices, and other destructive behaviours capable of leading anyone into a lunatic asylum and a shattered future.
To maintain sexual purity, he urged youths to set boundaries and guard against the desires of the flesh, emphasising that they might lose some friends in the process of upholding purity.
According to Oghuma, youths must stay put on the path of personal growth to avoid a dashed future.
The cleric also advised couples to prioritise effective communication, symbiotic relationship, moral and mutual respect with healthy boundaries.
“Maintaining purity will automatically enable your emotional well-being, balanced stronger relationships and a clear conscience of abounding grace from God, because you are not on the sin side (Rom 6:1).
“Also the disadvantages of impurity are never far from destructive vices, moral decadence, self imprisonment, prisoner of conscience, guilt, impure thoughts, collateral damaged relationships, long-term consequence and self imposed curse or affliction.
“We should learn to prioritise self-control at all cost; respect yourself and others, seek godly counsel where necessary and subscribe to daily holy living.
“These will make the demon of impurity be a history nipped in the breast plate of righteousness and on the altar of godly living,” Oghuma said.
The pastors, however, concluded by stressing that true purity can only be sustained by surrendering to Jesus Christ and allowing the Holy Spirit to provide guidance. (NAN)
