The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Oyo State, Mr. Kayode Ola Peters, has reaffirmed that Corps Members remain the focal point of all preparations for the 2025 Batch C Orientation Course.
He made this known during the maiden meeting with camp officials, expressing gratitude to God for their safe arrival and readiness for the exercise.
Mr. Peters urged officials to receive the prospective Corps Members warmly and create a supportive, hospitable environment that reflects the Scheme’s values.
He emphasised that every official must remain committed to their assigned duties in order to align with the broader objectives of the NYSC, noting that the quality of service delivered directly shapes the Corps Members’ camp experience.
On security, the Coordinator charged both officials and partnering agencies to remain vigilant and proactive throughout the orientation period.
He stressed the need for continuous alertness, advising the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to remain thorough in ensuring a drug-free camp. According to him, only a secure environment can guarantee a productive orientation exercise.
He further addressed accommodation and resource management, urging camp participants to use available facilities responsibly and to foster mutual respect.
Mr. Peters advised officials to apply emotional intelligence in their interactions with Corps Members, encouraging them to always follow proper communication channels even when faced with provocation.
Speaking on discipline, he cautioned camp officials against over-socialising with Corps Members, noting that professionalism is key to enforcing camp rules.
He warned strongly against extortion, stating that the Scheme frowns upon such misconduct and that anyone caught would be decisively sanctioned.
He also insisted on strict adherence to the daily timetable, especially lights-out regulations.
He encouraged officials to monitor their health and advised Platoon Inspectors to motivate Corps Members to patronise the camp kitchen for nutritious meals.
A senior officer from Human Resource Management, Mrs. Taiwo Modupe, delivered an enlightening session on commitment and professional conduct. The Camp Director, Mrs. Afolabi Racheal, called for enhanced collaboration among officials to ensure a seamless orientation programme and prayed for a successful camp.
The meeting was well attended by camp officials, Heads of Assignment, and collaborating agencies, all of whom provided critical briefs ahead of the exercise.
