The Shield Cooperative Society of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has elected its New executives to oversee its affairs for another two years
Newsline NG learnt that the election was held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the Security Unit of the university.
Speaking with Our correspondent, the outgoing President, Mrs. Aderonke Mercy Sasere, reflected on her stewardship, expressing gratitude to members, Executives, and the University Management for the support she received during her tenure.
Sasere, the pioneer Female President of the Society explained that her decision not to seek re-election was deliberate, driven by her desire to allow fresh ideas and new leadership energy to emerge.
Mrs. Sasere recounted some of the major accomplishments recorded under her administration, noting that monthly Cooperative deductions grew remarkably from about ₦1 million to roughly ₦3 million, while membership expanded from just over 100 individuals to over 200 members committed cooperators.
She emphasized that leadership is a relay and expressed hope that the new Executive would uphold transparency, protect the integrity of the Cooperative, and continue to build on the strong foundation laid by previous administrations.
Declaring the winners at the poll, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Comrade Arise Olaiya, expressed profound satisfaction with the level of participation and the orderly conduct witnessed throughout the exercise.
Arise noted that the contest for various positions was both competitive and transparent, reflecting the commitment of members to strengthening the Cooperative’s governance structure.
According to Chairman, Comrade Raphael Ogusakin emerged as President after polling 37 votes, closely followed by his rival who garnered 32 votes an outcome he described as a clear demonstration of the vibrancy of the Cooperative’s internal democracy.
Other positions were also keenly contested, with Mrs. Olarewaju Augustina Bunmi elected Vice President with 45 votes, Mr. Akinyemi Gbenga secured the position of General Secretary with 65 votes, Comrade Samuel 'Wale Omowaye voted Treasurer with 57 votes, Dr. Ndubusi emerging PRO with 52 votes, and Comrade Oyeleye Samuel elected as Ex-Officio with 62 votes.
"I want to commend cooperators for displaying maturity, respect for the rules, I appreciate you for your orderliness throughout the conduct of this election" Arise said
He emphasized that the Electoral Committee had pledged to conduct a free, fair, and credible election, a promise he said was fulfilled through rigorous planning, transparent procedures, and strict adherence to guidelines.
He extended appreciation to his committee members for their dedication, to the outgoing Executive for their cooperation, and to the University Management for providing both moral and structural support, adding that the success of the election was a reflection of what can be achieved when all stakeholders work together towards a shared goal.
Mr. Arise however urged the new Executive to uphold the values of accountability, service, and integrity, noting that leadership in a Cooperative demands sincerity of purpose and sensitivity to the needs of members.
In his acceptance speech, the President-elect, Comrade Raphael Ogusakin, expressed deep gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve and thanked members for the trust and confidence reposed in him.
He noted that his victory was a call to duty and pledged to work tirelessly to justify the mandate given to him.
Ogusakin highlighted transparency, digital transformation of Cooperative transactions, enhanced welfare packages, and development-focused projects as key priorities of his administration.
"Modern Cooperative societies across the world are adopting digital systems to improve efficiency and accountability, and FUOYE Shield Cooperative cannot afford to remain behind" President-designate said
He assured members that under his leadership, the Society would pursue innovations that will simplify operations, strengthen financial management, and promote greater member satisfaction.
In her vote of thanks , The Vice President elect, Mrs. Olarewaju Augustina Bunmi, appreciated the electoral committee, cooperators and all stakeholders in the society for their support
The outgoing PRO, Mrs Olarewaju prayed for continued success and pledged that the new leadership would work as a team to consolidate on existing achievements of Mrs Mary Sasere and push the Society to new heights.
