Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has formally ended his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), bringing to an end months of speculation about his political future ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election.
His resignation has now confirmed that he is parting ways with the party under which he was elected in 2022.
Grapevine sources revealed that the governor was considering a move to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and later the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.
In a resignation letter personally signed by the Governor, dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP chairman in Sagbe Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede, copies of which were made available to newsmen on Monday night, Governor Adeleke cited persistent leadership crises within the party—particularly at the national level—as the reason for his departure. He described the situation as untenable and ended the letter with the biblical phrase, “To your tents, O Israel!”
Sources close to the governor told our correspondent that Adeleke is expected to announce his new political party today, Tuesday, December 2, 2025. According to insiders, Accord Party is currently viewed as the most likely platform for his next political move, though the governor has yet to make any official declaration.
It was further gathered that despite Adeleke being the only aspirant who obtained the PDP nomination and expression of interest forms for the 2026 governorship race, one of the factions within the crisis-ridden party may still conduct a parallel primary election in Osun State today.
Meanwhile, the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, confirmed in a statement last night that Governor Adeleke had indeed resigned his membership of the PDP as far back as November 4, 2025. According to him, the resignation letter was formally addressed to the PDP chairman for Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, Ede North Local Government, Osun State.
The letter reads in part:
“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect. I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (representing Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”
