The family of Gbenga Joseph Ogunyemi, popularly known as Abalawa, is in anguish as the 52-year-old businessman has been missing since October 21, 2025, under circumstances his family describes as deeply troubling.
An intensive search led by community leaders and law enforcement has so far only recovered his vehicle, leaving more questions than answers.
Ogunyemi was last seen on the afternoon of October 21, driving from Akure towards the historic town of Idanre. His disappearance took a sinister turn hours later during a cryptic phone call to his wife.
According to his wife, who spoke exclusively to investigative Journalist, Babatunde Bamigboye Omo Edema, her husband called her that day speaking in unusually hushed and urgent tones. “He instructed me to call him back in 10 minutes and to ensure I recorded whatever conversation I might hear when the call connected,” she recounted.
Alarmed, she followed his instructions precisely. However, when she attempted to call back just minutes later, his mobile line was already unreachable and has remained inaccessible ever since.
The case escalated when Ogunyemi’s car was discovered abandoned.
Omo Edema and security operatives are now probing multiple angles, including a recent and bitter land dispute that Ogunyemi was involved in. It was gathered that the missing man had been in a major conflict with his cousin, Thomas Adetila, over a family farm in Idanre.
Sources close to the family revealed that Adetila had rented the farmland for 18 years. At the end of the lease period, the family reallocated the property to one Sunkanmi, an associate of Ogunyemi. This decision sparked a fierce legal battle, with Ogunyemi and his allies ultimately prevailing in court over Adetila.
It remains uncertain whether this acrimonious dispute is connected to Ogunyemi’s disappearance.
