Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates of the Oyo State College of Health Sciences and Technology (OYSCHST) can now participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
OYSCHST Provost, Mrs Oluyemisi Oyewo, disclosed this on Thursday during the institution’s 2025/2026 matriculation in Ibadan.
Oyewo said that NYSC recently listed the college among the institutions producing corps members in Nigeria.
“Before now, the institution was not participating.
“This is huge, and we are grateful for it,” she said.
She remarked that the college had, over the years, built a strong reputation for producing skilled, competent and ethical health professionals.
According to her, the professionals contribute meaningfully to the healthcare system in the state and beyond.
“The school’s programmes are designed in line with national and international standards, with strong emphasis on professionalism, practical skills and community-oriented healthcare delivery,” she said.
On the matriculating students, Oyewo urged the 1,029 students to be focused and purposeful in their studies.
She also urged them to strike a healthy balance between academics and social life, prioritising their studies.
“Matriculation is not merely a ceremony; it is a solemn contract between you and this institution.
“By taking the oath, you agree to abide by the rules governing studentship in this college.
“You are entering professions that deal directly with human lives.
“So, values such as integrity, compassion, discipline, respect for authority and adherence to ethical standards must guide your conduct at all times.
“Acts of examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, sexual harassment or any form of misconduct will not be tolerated.
“Remember that success in the health profession requires not only intelligence but also dedication, empathy and continuous learning,” she said.
The provost also disclosed that the 1,029 matriculants across 23 courses of the college were the highest ever recorded in the college’s almost 93-year history.
She appreciated Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for his unwavering commitment to the growth of education and healthcare in the state.
Oyewo also congratulated the governor and people of Oyo State on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the state’s creation.
She expressed confidence that under Makinde ‘s visionary leadership, the state would continue to witness more sustainable development and greater achievements across all sectors.
The Chairman of OYSCHST Governing Council, Mr Babatunde Olaniyan, also expressed gratitude for enlisting the institution as a participant in the NYSC scheme.
Olaniyan remarked that the students’ performance in national examinations was almost at 90 per cent.
He thanked the state government for the unwavering support and appealed for more funds and infrastructure to enable the college have more accredited courses.
“We thank God that the college has been listed as an NYSC institution; this means that there will be an increased number of students’ enrolment.
“So, we urge the government to do more, and I congratulate the state on the 50th anniversary of notable achievements,” Olaniyan said.
Earlier, the Registrar of the college, Mrs Oladupe Ayoola, congratulated the matriculants and urged them to be academically focused to succeed.
Ayoola advised the new students to shun cultism, absenteeism and criminal activities that might hinder their academic progress.
She also called on the students to always observe the school rules and regulations in the interest of their success.
One of the students, Miss Opeyemi Abayomi, thanked God for being among the matriculants, stressing that many who applied for admission were not accepted. (NAN)
