The management of Owena Press has approved the appointment of Mrs Abimbola Akindunbi as the substantive Editor of The Hope titles, marking a fresh phase in the management of the newspaper.
The appointment, according to the management, is part of a broader internal restructuring that also saw the redeployment of some senior staff to key departments to strengthen service delivery and improve performance across the organisation.
She is now the first female Editor of The Hope since its establishment, 37 years ago.
Mrs Akindunbi is 52 years old. She is a Journalism graduate of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos, and holds a Higher Diploma in Mass Communication from Rufus Giwa Polytechnic.
She also possesses a Bachelor of Science Degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, in addition to a Postgraduate Diploma in Christian Theology.
Akindunbi began her professional career at the defunct Lagos State Publishing Company, publishers of Eko Today Newspaper in Ikeja, Lagos.
She joined Owena Press Limited in 2001 as a crime reporter and later transitioned to the judiciary beat, where she distinguished herself.
She also had a brief engagement on the politics beat and pioneered The Hope Metro and Law pages.
Mrs Akindunbii is a member of the Nigerian Union of Journalists and an associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Ondo State chapters.
Before her confirmation as substantive Editor, she served as Deputy Editor of Weekend Hope in 2024, Editor of Weekend Hope in 2025 and Acting Editor of The Hope Newspapers.
She is married with children.
Her appointment takes effect from Friday, January 16, 2026.
In the same vein, the former Editor of The Hope Newspaper, Mr Akindele Adubuola, has been redeployed as Senior Manager, Outstations.
Mr Wale Olakunle, the former Production Manager, has been appointed Senior Manager, Commercial Services, while the former Deputy Editor of The Hope Newspaper, Mr Olusola Alatise, is now the Advert Manager.
