Residents of Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State have commended the Oba Micah and Olori Moronke Ajijo Foundation for donating medical equipment and essential drugs to the State General Hospital, Igbokoda, describing the gesture as a significant boost to healthcare delivery in the riverine community.
In separate interviews with the Newsmen, residents said the intervention had strengthened medical services in the area, particularly in diagnostics.
They said the equipment had already transformed diagnostic services, especially for pregnant women, cardiac patients, and others requiring detailed imaging and monitoring
They noted that access to advanced healthcare had long been a challenge due to the difficult terrain and distance from major urban centres.
Newsline NG learnt that the Foundation donated a multi-million naira 4D Ultrasound Doppler machine alongside a supply of drugs to the hospital.
Community members said the equipment had already transformed diagnostic services, especially for pregnant women, cardiac patients, and others requiring detailed imaging and monitoring.
A Senior Medical Officer at the State General Hospital, Igbokoda, Dr. Sola Ogayemi, expressed profound appreciation to the Foundation for what he described as a timely and life-saving intervention.
He explained that the 4D Ultrasound Doppler machine is a high-tech diagnostic tool capable of providing real-time imaging and detailed assessment of blood flow and organ function.
According to Ogayemi, the equipment has significantly enhanced the hospital’s ability to manage high-risk pregnancies, detect congenital abnormalities early, and monitor cardiovascular conditions effectively.
“The presence of this equipment has helped reduce maternal and infant mortality by enabling timely medical interventions,” he said.
He further disclosed that before the donation, patients who required advanced ultrasound scans were often referred to facilities outside the community, a development that imposed financial strain and logistical difficulties on families.
"With the installation of the new machine, residents can now access quality diagnostic services within their locality.
Also speaking, the Director of Basic Primary Health Care Centre, Dr. Oluwalominu Ayeilaje, lauded the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to improving healthcare delivery.
"He described the donation as a critical intervention that has strengthened diagnostic capacity and enhanced the overall quality of care available to residents.
“The Oba Micah and Olori Moronke Ajijo Foundation has once again demonstrated genuine concern for the wellbeing of our people. We sincerely appreciate this laudable support to the health sector,” Ayeilaje said.
A beneficiary, Mrs. Gift Victoria-Omosaye, highlighted the challenges posed by the riverine terrain of Ilaje, noting that accessing urban medical centres can be difficult and costly. She said the new equipment would save lives and ease the burden on families seeking specialised care.
Newsline NG gathered that the Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation, had earlier organised a medical outreach in Igbokoda on January 10, during which hundreds of residents benefited from free consultations, medications, and minor medical procedures, further underscoring its sustained philanthropic efforts in the community.
