Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has urged members of the 2026 Batch A Stream II posted to the state including those redeployed from Lagos to approach their national service with sincerity, courage, and optimism, as he officially declared the orientation course open.
The governor gave the charge during the swearing-in ceremony held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin, where a strong sense of patriotism and commitment marked the beginning of a new service year.
Represented by the Director of Youth in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Alhaja Kuburat O. Mustapha, Makinde welcomed the Corps Members to Oyo State, describing it as the Pacesetter State known for its hospitality, rich history, and vibrant cultural heritage.
He congratulated the graduates on completing their academic programmes, noting that their mobilisation into the National Youth Service Corps signals a transition into greater responsibility, leadership, and service to the nation.
Makinde also emphasised that the oath of allegiance administered at the ceremony represents a solemn pledge to serve Nigeria with integrity, dedication, and patriotism.
He added that youth participation in national service remains essential for fostering unity, national integration, and sustainable development.
In his address, the State Coordinator, Kayode Ola Peters, praised the Makinde administration for its continued support of the scheme.
He noted that the state government’s interventions have significantly improved camp facilities, welfare, and the overall orientation experience.
Peters highlighted the recent tiling of the 4,000-capacity multipurpose hall as a major upgrade, describing it as a milestone that has enhanced the camp’s functionality for ceremonies, lectures, and other activities.
He urged Corps Members to uphold the core values of unity, patriotism, and selfless service throughout their service year.
The oath of allegiance was administered by the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Hon. Justice Iyabo Yerima, represented by Hon. Justice Olusola Adebisi Adejutoye, formally ushering the Corps Members into national service.
