Shock as 18-Month-Old baby beheaded in Ondo

Residents of Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State have been thrown into shock and grief following the gruesome killing of an 18-month-old girl by unknown assailants at a farm settlement in the area.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Agoti Settlement, a farming community in Idanre.

The victim’s father, Mr. Bright Kalu, a peasant farmer originally from Abia State, is demanding justice for the brutal murder of his daughter.

Speaking on the incident, Kalu explained that his daughter had been left in the care of her mother at the family’s farm camp while he went to work at another farmland located some distance away.

Recounting the painful experience, he said:

“On Monday, June 8, 2026, I was returning from a nearby camp where I had gone to purchase food items when I met my wife looking distressed and unsettled.

“When I asked what had happened, she told me that an unknown person had invaded the camp and attacked her. She managed to rescue three of our children, but one child could not be found.”

Kalu said he immediately mobilised his elder brother, Mr. Ifeanyi Kalu, and together they returned to the camp to search for the missing child.

According to him, after an extensive search around the settlement, they later discovered the lifeless body of the toddler behind their residence, with her head severed.

The grieving father appealed to the Ondo State Government, security agencies and relevant human rights organisations to ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted.

He added that the matter was first reported at Olofin Police Station in Idanre before it was transferred to the Ondo State Police Command Headquarters in Akure for further investigation.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that one suspect had been arrested and that investigations were ongoing.

Jimoh assured that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

A High court sitting in Okitipupa has nullified the Oniju of Iju-Odo Chieftaincy declaration, holding that the State Government had no power to create a new chieftaincy without the consent of the Rebuja of Osooro land, the prescribed authority over chieftaincy matters in the communities within Osooro land, including Iju-Odo Community.
