The Chief Judge (CJ) of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima, has accepted to serve as an Honorary Member of the Oyo State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Marshals.
This is contained in a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday by the Oyo State High Court Information Officer, Mrs Comfort Udoh.
The CJ accepted the appointment when the new Oyo State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Kehinde Dahunsi, led a delegation on a familiarisation and courtesy visit to her office.
She warmly welcomed the FRSC team and said the visit further strengthened the already existing cordial relationship between the judiciary and the corps.
Yerima reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to sustaining the partnership for an effective administration of justice and road safety.
She graciously accepted the appointment as an Honorary Member of the FRSC Special Marshals and requested that the date for the investiture ceremony be communicated to her.
The CJ also assured the command that the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) would nominate a Judicial Officer or Legal Practitioner to serve as facilitator during the command’s quarterly legal workshops.
She advised the corps to maintain close collaboration with the Deputy Chief Registrar, Magistrates Matters, Mr Taiwo Oladiran, on judiciary-related matters.
According to the statement, the CJ pledged to create additional mobile courts to accelerate the prosecution of traffic offenders across the state.
Also, Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court, emphasised the need for continuous education of motorists and drivers across the state.
Earlier, Dahunsi said the visit was to formally introduce himself as the new sector commander and further strengthen ties with the Oyo State Judiciary.
Dahunsi described the Oyo judiciary as one of the corps’ most valued partners in promoting road safety and the administration of justice.
He appreciated the CJ for her support, particularly commending the appointment of Mrs Latunde Odunola as the Magistrate overseeing FRSC Mobile Court activities in Oyo State.
Dahunsi highlighted the need to expand mobile court operations and requested additional magistrates to cover the Oke-Ogun, Oyo, Ogbomosho and Ibarapa Divisions to improve compliance with traffic regulations state-wide.
He appealed to the CJ to join the FRSC Special Marshals, citing the example of the President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Monica Bolna’an Dongban-Mensem, serving as a special marshal.
