The General Secretary of Progressive Sisters Club, Igogo-Ekiti, Ms. Dorcas Omolayo Olajide, has advocated for wider space for women in community development.
Speaking with our reporter recently, Ms. Olajide, who maintained that collective commitment remains the surest path to building a stronger and more prosperous society, emphasised that women possess adequate qualities that can drive community development, if given a chance.
According to her, Progressive Sisters Club, Igogo Ekiti was established to fill the age long lacuna in order to strengthen peace, unity, love and friendship among members and the people of Igogo-Ekiti while promoting the community's cherished traditions and values.
The seasoned and career administrator with the Ondo State Local Government said the club has concluded arrangements to introduce innovative initiatives aimed at inspiring women and youths for sustainable development of the town.
She explained that the club, as a socio-cultural and community development association of responsible and progressive women, is committed to promoting unity, supporting humanitarian causes, while preserving the cultural heritage of Igogo-Ekiti and contributing meaningfully to the economic growth of the town.
She added that the club also aims to provide financial, moral and spiritual support for members and other categories of women, especially the needy in such areas as skill acquisition, trade and empowerment that could advance local development.
Speaking on preparations for the firth coming 2026 Igogo Day Celebrations, the General Secretary disclosed that the club would introduce a fresh dimension to the event by encouraging more active participation of women through various activities during the festival.
She explained that the celebration would also serve as a platform to recognise distinguished sons and daughters of Igogo-Ekiti, celebrate the town's rich cultural heritage, inspire young people to contribute their quotas to the advancement of initiatives that improve the welfare of residents.
Ms. Olajide said the club envisions an Igogo Day Celebration that goes beyond cultural festivities, saying such important event should remain a catalyst for meaningful community development that will deliver lasting positive impact on the present and future generations.
Addressing the younger folk, she urged Igogo-Ekiti youths to embrace education, acquire vocational and professional skills, uphold integrity and good character, respect their cultural heritage and avoid social vices capable of undermining their future.
She further encouraged the youths to remain hardworking, focused and patriotic, stressing the need to proudly represent Igogo-Ekiti wherever they find themselves as good ambassadors of the town.
While appealling to sons and daughters of Igogo-Ekiti, particularly those blessed with financial and professional expertise, to participate more actively in the development of the community through education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, mentorship and humanitarian services, she expressed confidence that greater collaboration among stakeholders would accelerate the community's development, noting that every contribution, regardless of size, would leave a lasting legacy when properly channeled. .
