Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has been declared the winner of the 2026 governorship election held in the state on Saturday.
The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Lekan Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), announced the result in the early hours of Sunday.
According to the final results declared, Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Najeem Salam, came a distant third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won in 19 of the 30 Local Government Areas in the state, while Oyebamiji of the APC secured victory in the remaining 11 LGAs.
The election recorded a total of 2,339,544 registered voters, out of which 1,010,684 were accredited.
The total votes cast stood at 1,005,800, comprising 985,079 valid votes and 20,721 rejected votes.
With the declaration, Adeleke retains the Osun governorship after defeating his major challenger in a closely contested election.
