The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, identified as Solomon Onaola, over the alleged defilement of a 15-year-old girl in Omifon, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was arrested following a report made by the guardian of the teenage girl, who was said to have been working as a domestic help in the household.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the case was initially reported at the Odigbo Divisional Police Station before being transferred to the Gender-Based Offences Unit of the command for discreet investigation.
The command said preliminary investigation revealed that the girl’s guardian reported the matter to the police on August 2, 2026, after observing that the teenager had allegedly left the house on several occasions without permission.
The statement said that when the girl was questioned about where she went whenever she left home, she allegedly disclosed that Onaola had been taking her to his late mother’s residence in Omifon.
The girl allegedly told her guardian that the suspect engaged in sexual intercourse with her at the residence.
Following the report, police operatives commenced investigation and subsequently arrested the suspect.
The victim has been placed under appropriate care, while necessary measures are being taken in line with established procedures for handling alleged sexual offences involving minors.
The State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, directed the Gender-Based Offences Unit to conduct a thorough and professional investigation into the matter to establish the facts and ensure that justice is served.
The command reiterated its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society from sexual exploitation, abuse and other forms of violence.
The police also urged parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the welfare of children under their care.
They were further advised to promptly report suspected cases of child abuse or sexual violence to the appropriate authorities.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigation continues and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
