The ongoing collation of results from Saturday’s Osun State governorship election has entered a crucial stage, with the Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress (APC) reportedly in a close contest as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to upload polling-unit results to its Result Viewing (IReV) portal.
As of 8:18 p.m. on Saturday, INEC had uploaded 3,191 of the 3,763 expected polling-unit result sheets from the state’s 30 local government areas, representing 84.80 per cent of the expected results.
The latest figures showed that 572 polling-unit result sheets were yet to be uploaded to the portal as the commission continued the electronic publication of results following the conclusion of voting.
Results had been uploaded from all 30 local government areas, although the level of completion varied from one council to another.
Osogbo Local Government Area recorded the highest number of uploaded result sheets, with 258 out of 282 results already available on the portal, leaving 24 outstanding.
Ife Central had 194 of its 215 expected results uploaded, while Ife East recorded 181 out of 200. In Ilesa East, 115 of the 132 expected result sheets had been uploaded.
Other local government areas with significant numbers of uploaded results included Ifelodun, with 126 out of 145; Aiyedade, 121 out of 150; Irepodun, 120 out of 133; Ila, 117 out of 124; and Ede North, 116 out of 139.
Some councils were also approaching complete electronic transmission. Boluwaduro had 73 of its 74 expected results uploaded, while Ifedayo had 60 of 63 and Isokan had 73 of 95.
Ola-Oluwa recorded one of the lower levels of upload at the time of the update, with 41 of its 62 expected result sheets available on the portal.
The 84.80 per cent figure represents the proportion of polling-unit result sheets uploaded to the IReV portal and should not be interpreted as the percentage of votes counted or as an indication of any candidate’s share of the votes.
The remaining 572 result sheets are expected to form part of the continuing electronic publication process, while the final winner will be determined through INEC’s established collation and declaration procedure.
The increasing number of results available on the IReV portal has provided political parties, voters and observers with access to polling-unit result sheets as attention shifts to the completion of uploads and the final collation of results across the state.
