Popular Nigerian juju musician, Mrs. Iyun Janet Oluwatoyosi Ajilore, widely known as Saint Janet and affectionately called "Mama Yabis," has passed away after a brief illness.
The veteran entertainer reportedly died on Saturday, bringing to an end a music career that spanned several years and earned her a loyal following across Nigeria.
Her death was announced on Sunday by fellow gospel juju musician, Akinola Ayoola Michael, popularly known as Alayo Singer, through a post on his Instagram page.
Expressing his grief, Alayo Singer shared the image of a candle alongside a heartfelt tribute, praying for the late musician's peaceful repose.
The news was also confirmed by veteran journalist Otunba Femi Davies, who described Saint Janet as a celebrated juju and highlife artiste renowned for her electrifying stage performances and fearless lyrical style.
Saint Janet built a reputation as one of the country's most vibrant live performers, captivating audiences with a unique blend of juju and highlife music infused with humour, satire and candid social commentary. Her ability to address everyday societal issues through entertaining performances earned her the popular nickname, "Mama Yabis."
Over the years, she became a familiar face at parties, ceremonies and social events, where her energetic performances and charismatic personality endeared her to fans from different parts of the country.
Her passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, admirers and music lovers, who have continued to celebrate her contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry.
