Man Kills Mother, Buries Body in Farm

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Taye Kasali, over the alleged murder of his mother, Kudirat Kasali, in Bode-Osi, Osun State.

The suspect was also alleged to have buried his mother's remains in a shallow grave inside the family's farm after the incident.

The police disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by the command's Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi.

According to the statement, the matter came to the attention of the police on September 1, 2026, following a report that Kudirat and her son had gone missing.

Ojelabi said police operatives commenced an investigation and, through intelligence-led efforts, arrested Taye on September 7 in connection with the case.

The PPRO said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation that he killed his mother on August 31, 2026.

He reportedly told investigators that his mother had allegedly been calling him a mad person and had threatened to lease out the family's farmland, which he described as an important source of livelihood for the family.

The police said the suspect allegedly confessed to using a machete to slit his mother's throat before burying her body in a shallow grave within the farm.

Following the confession, the suspect was said to have led police operatives to the location where the remains were buried.

The command said the deceased's remains were recovered from the shallow grave, alongside the machete allegedly used in the crime.

The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Zungura, has directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated.

The police said the suspect would be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation.

Zungura also assured members of the public that the command would ensure that justice was served in accordance with the law.

The police further urged members of the public to promptly report missing persons and suspicious activities to security agencies, stressing the importance of providing relevant information that could assist investigations.
