Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, has recorded a new milestone in its drive to promote entrepreneurship, diversify its commercial ventures, and strengthen institutional self-reliance with the inauguration of its first-ever bakery, branded AAUA Mede Bread.
The bakery was officially inaugurated on Friday, October 23, 2026, by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tomola Obamuyi, who was represented at the ceremony by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adebisi Daramola.
The establishment of the bakery marks the achievement of another milestone in the AAUA FIRST agenda of the Prof. Obamuyi-led Management, as well as a significant development in the University's efforts to expand its entrepreneurial activities through viable business ventures capable of meeting the needs of the university community and residents of neighbouring communities.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Vice Chancellor described the initiative as a remarkable innovation that aligns with his administration's commitment to transforming the entrepreneurial landscape of the University and exploring opportunities for sustainable business development.
He explained that the establishment of the bakery formed part of the broader efforts to encourage on-campus entrepreneurship and develop commercially-viable ventures that would serve members of the University Community and the members of the larger society.
The VC expressed delight at the successful establishment of the facility, assuring the bakery's operators of the University's management’s support towards ensuring its sustainability, growth and overall success.
He charged the operators to make quality their foremost priority, emphasising the need to maintain high production standards and consistently deliver quality loaves to consumers.
According to him, sustained attention to product quality would be crucial to earning the confidence, trust and patronage of members of the university community and the general public.
Prof. Obamuyi wished the operators success in their operations and formally declared the bakery open for business, ushering in a new phase in the University's commercial and entrepreneurial activities.
Earlier, the supervisor of the bakery, Oluwafunke Temitope, expressed appreciation to the University Management for providing the opportunity to establish the venture, describing it as an avenue to contribute to the institution's entrepreneurial development.
She disclosed that AAUA Mede Bread would offer a variety of bread products to cater for different consumer preferences. The varieties include chocolate bread, wheat bread, coconut bread, and butter bread.
Temitope assured prospective customers of the quality of the products, noting that the bakery uses high automation for efficient, hygienic, and fast production, and is therefore positioned to serve a broad customer base within and beyond the University.
She stated that the bakery's products are available to students, staff and members of the surrounding communities, as the prices are affordable and competitive. She urged members of the university community to patronise the University's new business venture, adding that the loaves sell from N350.
The introduction of AAUA Mede Bread is expected to broaden the University's commercial activities while providing an additional avenue for engagement with the campus community and neighbouring residents.
