The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has summoned four police officers allegedly involved in the assault of a young man in a viral social media video.
The officers were directed to report to the state police command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further action over the incident, which reportedly occurred at Ijagba, Sango-Ota, Ogun State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
The video, which sparked widespread public outrage, showed police operatives pinning a young man to the ground before handcuffing him.
A voice heard in the footage alleged that the young man was arrested for wearing camouflage shorts, while questioning the force used by the officers during the encounter.
Reacting to the development, Babaseyi said the officers involved had been identified and that the commissioner had ordered immediate action in accordance with established procedures.
“The command remains committed to accountability, professional discipline and the highest standards of policing,” the police spokesperson stated.
He added that the four officers were already on their way to the command headquarters, assuring the public that further updates would be provided as the situation developed.
The incident has renewed public concerns about police conduct and the need for law enforcement officers to uphold professionalism and respect citizens’ rights during arrests.
