Ekiti SC Visits Oyo camp, Harps on Patriotism, National Unity

The Ekiti State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Mr. Ige Adeola Abiodun, has charged Corps Members dislodged from Ekiti State to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin, Oyo State, to exemplify discipline, patriotism and selfless service while upholding the core values of the Scheme.

Addressing the Corps Members during a familiarisation visit to the camp, he underscored the imperative of national unity, peaceful coexistence and responsible citizenship, urging them to transcend ethnic, religious and cultural differences in the collective pursuit of national development.

Mr. Ige, who congratulated the Corps Members on their participation in the national service programme, attributed their temporary relocation to ongoing renovation work at the Ekiti Orientation Camp, disclosing that the first phase of the project had attained 65 per cent completion. He urged them to remain calm, cooperative and focused throughout the Orientation Course, assuring them that official communication regarding their return arrangements would be provided at the appropriate time.

He also reaffirmed the priority accorded to their welfare and encouraged them to uphold the NYSC motto, Service and Humility, through integrity, respect and dedication to duty.

Emphasising the transformative potential of national service, the Ekiti State Coordinator encouraged the Corps Members to maximise the opportunities presented by the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to acquire marketable skills, strengthen their employability and explore viable entrepreneurial ventures.

He further challenged them to identify pressing needs within their host communities and initiate impactful community development projects. While cautioning against discrimination, bullying, sexual harassment, exploitation and other forms of abuse, he stressed the importance of respecting human dignity, maintaining exemplary conduct and exercising discretion on social media.

He equally advised them to manage their allowances prudently, prioritise personal safety, avoid night journeys and obtain the State Coordinator’s approval before travelling.

Earlier, the Oyo State Coordinator, Mr. Kayode Ola Peters, warmly received his Ekiti counterpart and expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the dislodged Corps Members since their arrival at the camp. He commended their discipline, cooperation and positive disposition towards camp activities, noting that they had integrated seamlessly with their Oyo State counterparts despite the difference in their states of deployment. According to him, their harmonious interaction exemplified the spirit of national integration and peaceful coexistence which the NYSC Scheme was established to foster.

Mr. Peters also appreciated the Ekiti State Coordinator for the visit, which further reinforced the collaborative relationship between the two state secretariats. The engagement provided an opportunity to assess the Corps Members’ welfare, acknowledge their adjustment to the temporary arrangement and reiterate the shared commitment of both state administrations to ensuring a productive and rewarding Orientation Course. The visit further highlighted the importance of institutional cooperation in sustaining the welfare and effective management of Corps Members across state boundaries.

The high point of the visit was a captivating cultural dance performance by the camp’s cultural troupe, which added colour and vibrancy to the occasion while celebrating Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity.

The corps members performance provided a fitting expression of the unity in diversity championed by the NYSC Scheme, reinforcing the message that national service transcends geographical boundaries and offers young Nigerians a unique platform to build lasting bonds, promote mutual understanding and contribute meaningfully to national development
