The Guest House of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, has received a much-needed boost with the provision and commissioning of an 11KVA solar power system that is aimed at freeing the facility from the burden of reliance on expensive diesel-powered generators for its operations.
Speaking at the commissioning on Monday, Oct 19, 2026, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tomola Obamuyi, said the project was part of Management’s efforts to improve service delivery and enhance the revenue-generating capacity of the facility.
He added that it would guarantee uninterrupted and reliable power supply in the Guest House; even as he gave assurances that the gesture would be extended to other facilities and centres on the campus.
While thanking members of Management for their cooperation, the Vice Chancellor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and service delivery across the university and that more developmental projects would be undertaken.
The solar system comprises an 11KVA inverter, 15KWH lithium battery, and 10 units of 650-watt bi-facial solar panels, capable of providing reliable and sustainable power supply to the Guest House.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of the University Guest House, Prof. Muyiwa Alade, expressed profound appreciation to Management for prioritizing the improvement of the facility, describing the intervention as a significant step towards enhancing its operations.
Prof. Alade noted that the Vice Chancellor recognized the need to bring the Guest House up to standard, particularly in the area of electricity supply, in order to enhance its fortunes as one of the university’s revenue generating units.
He disclosed that the solar facility ensures a 24-hour power supply; a development he said would significantly improve service delivery, attract more guests and boost patronage.
The Director further encouraged members of the university community and the general public to promote the Guest House beyond the immediate environment by informing prospective guests about its improved facilities and services.
He thanked the Vice Chancellor for the gesture, expressing optimism that the project would contribute meaningfully to the growth and financial sustainability of the Guest House.
