Former General Manager of IRI 96.1 FM, Ibadan, Ajibola Akinyefa, has clarified that he was not sacked by the management of the radio station but voluntarily resigned from his position.
Akinyefa made the clarification following reports surrounding his departure from the station, insisting that his exit was a result of his resignation and not a termination of his appointment by the management.
To substantiate his position, the former General Manager released a copy of his official resignation letter dated October 19, 2026, explaining that the document was intended to clear the air over the circumstances surrounding his cessation of duty at the station.
In a statement accompanying the letter, Akinyefa said the release of the document was deliberate, aimed at correcting the impression created by reports suggesting that he had been sacked.
He maintained that his departure should be understood in the context of his resignation rather than a dismissal by the management of IRI 96.1 FM.
The clarification comes amid reports about the end of his tenure as General Manager of the Ibadan-based radio station, with public attention focused on the circumstances surrounding his exit.
Akinyefa, who was appointed General Manager of IRI 96.1 FM in 2025 after leaving Ilaji 91.1 FM, had been associated with the station's management before his departure.
His resignation letter, dated October 19, 2026, is the document he has presented to support his account of the development.
The former General Manager's statement seeks to distinguish between a resignation, which is initiated by an employee, and a dismissal or termination of appointment, which is initiated by an employer.
