Ifabiyi Warns Motorist against Reckless Driving

Motorists and other road users have been urged to avoid activities capable of causing road accidents during the festive season, particularly as travel activities increase across the country.

A member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Akoni Ifabiyi Olatunji (JP), gave the advice on Sunday in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Ajide, to congratulate his constituents on the new month of November.

The lawmaker reminded motorists and other road users that there was nothing inherently dangerous about the ember months, stressing that the frequent road accidents recorded during the period were largely caused by human errors and negligence.

He described this year's ember months safety campaign theme, "Avoid Speeding, Overloading and Unsafe Tyres to Arrive Alive," as appropriate, given the increasing rate at which motorists violate traffic regulations, resulting in preventable road accidents.

Ifabiyi, who emphasised the government's commitment to improving road transportation through the construction and reconstruction of roads, urged the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other relevant agencies to intensify public enlightenment campaigns on road safety.

He called on the agencies to sustain efforts in sensitising motorists and other road users against dangerous driving habits and other actions that could endanger lives, particularly as the volume of travel increases during the festive period.

The lawmaker also cautioned motorists, commercial drivers, motorcycle riders and commuters against consuming intoxicating substances while travelling or carrying out their daily activities.

He urged everyone to embrace responsible road use and strictly observe traffic regulations to prevent avoidable loss of lives before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
