A 32-year old Beninese fashion designer, identified simply as Jacob Joseph, has been accused of defiling his 16-year old apprentice after allegedly forcing her to consume cups of strong alcoholic drinks. Joseph, a father of four, allegedly committed the act around 11pm, on Monday, April 22, 2026, at his shop located within the Holy Trinity Anglican Church Shopping Complex, around the Mother and Child Hospital area in Akure, Ondo State. The HOPE METRO gathered that the victim, whose identity has been withheld, was a new apprentice in the shop. Worshippers abducted from a Celestial Church in Uso community, in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, have regained their freedom after their families reportedly paid a ransom to secure their release. The victims were said to have been freed on Monday evening at Ilado community following the payment of ₦9 million to their abductors. Their release brought relief to relatives and residents who had been engulfed in fear and uncertainty since news of the abduction broke. Sources close to the affected families disclosed that the worshippers spent several days in captivity before negotiations led to their eventual freedom. Ondo: Gunmen Storm Palace, Hack Monarch to Death

There was tension in Agamo community, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, following the gruesome killing of the Alagamo of Agamo, Oba Kehinde Falodun, by suspected gunmen . The attackers, said to be more than ten in number, reportedly stormed the monarch’s palace on Wednesday evening in what was believed to be a planned abduction. However, sources disclosed that the traditional ruler resisted the attempted kidnapping. A family source revealed that the assailants initially opened fire on the monarch. On 21st November, 2025, at about 1130hrs, the suspect allegedly lured a female victim onto his TVS motorcycle under the pretence of conveying her to Afunbiowo Housing Estate, Oke Aro. The suspect reportedly diverted into a nearby bush where he sexually assaulted the victim at gunpoint and dispossessed her of her valuables. A pregnant woman, Mrs. Mary Jesulayomi, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Ayede Community, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State. The incident occurred on Tuesday night, and an eyewitness reported that the woman was taken away around 7:40pm. According to sources, an 85-year-old woman, Mrs. Ogunleye Mese, was also kidnapped but later released, while her 90-year-old husband, Pa Ogunleye Mese, suffered injuries during the incident. The Edo Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old, Obehi Odine, for staging her own kidnapping and demanding a ₦10 million ransom .  Eleven others were also arrested for their alleged involvement in a kidnapping syndicate in a separate operation. According to the police, Odine confessed to fabricating the kidnapping to extort money. In a statement, the command's spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said exhibits, including firearms, were recovered during the operations. In a related operation in Ubiaja, the police, in collaboration with the Nigerian Military and Edo State Security Corps, arrested 11 suspects believed to be part of a kidnapping syndicate.  The operation led to the recovery of 24 dane guns, 17 cutlasses, three battle axes, and other items. The Ekiti State Amotekun Corps has arrested a 28-year-old man, Olapade Ifeoluwa, on the allegation of raping a seven-year-old girl. A pregnant woman named Aisha Najamu died at the Turai Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Maternity and Children Hospital in Katsina State after a health worker allegedly refused to accept a bank transfer for oxygen, insisting that only cash was allowed.  The incident happened on Monday when Aisha was brought to the hospital in a critical condition and urgently needed oxygen. Tenant allegedly assaults landlady, lands in court

By Chidinma Ewunonu-Aluko, Ibadan  A 29-year-old woman, Blessing Abiodun, was docked in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, for allegedly assaulting her landlady. The police charged Abiodun with assault and conduct likely to cause the breach of peace. She however pleaded not guilty. The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Oct.22, at about 8.50 p.m, at Akala area of Ibadan. Tellang alleged that the defendant hit Mrs Oluranti Akintobi, her landlady on  her right hand. He said the defendant conducted herself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by engaging in such acts. The Prosecutor added that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 351 and 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000. Magistrate Moyosore Atanda admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 and two sureties in like sum. She adjourned the case until Nov.12, for hearing. (NAN)
