Despite Government instructions to stay at home to curtail the spread of Coronavirus pandemic, 20 persons were arrested for violating the stay at home order declared by the state government on Wednesday.
The offenders were arrested at Ayegbaju Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State by the Taskforce on the fight against Covid-19 led by the Executive Chairman of Oye Local Government, Hon, Foluso Ojo.
They were said to be in an 18 passengers white Bus coming from Zamfara to Ilesa before they were arrested while 2 other persons were also nabbed at Ilupeju market for violating the directives order on Public gathering and social distancing.
Meanwhile, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Bridgadier General Ebenezer Ogundana later directed some members of the State Taskforce led by Captain Abdulahi to join Oye Local Government Taskforce to lead the stangers from Zamfara to Omuo Ekiti ,the boundary town between Ekiti State and Kogi State as part of the State Government efforts in curtailing the further spread of Coronavirus in Ekiti State.
Speaking with newsmen, Hon Ojo expressed disatisfaction over non compliance of the people with the measures and guideline of the government on total lockdown.
He stated further that the situation was more than giving directives in order to stem the tide of the spread of the COVID-19, but also to save lives, reduce ill health and ensuring that the economy of the people bounce back after the containment of the coronavirus pandemic in the area and in the state.
The Council Boss who is also a Medical Practioner, commended the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi over various precautionary measures he had being putting in place to curtail the spread of the pandemic in the State.
He called on the people of the area to continue to cooperate and support the Government in its bid to ensure the social wellbeing of its citizenries.
The Council Boss,therefore warned that, his administration would not hesitate to sanction anybody found violating the sit-at-home order, as well as those who fail to respect the precautionary measures such as covering of noses, using sanitizers and hand washing with soap and water.
Earlier, the Chairman of Oye Local Government, Hon. Foluso Ojo and a member of State House of Assembly representing Oye Constituency 2, Hon Reuben Awoyemi and members of the Council Taskforce on COVID-19 had move round all the border towns such as Ilemeso Ekiti which is between the Local Government Area and Kwara state to block the road to check the influx of the strangers coming in and going out of the States.
