Kidnapped Oyo Pupils, Teachers Regain Freedom

The pupils and teachers abducted by suspected gunmen in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom after spending more than 50 days in captivity.

Their release was announced on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.

"Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo, have been freed by their abductors," Onanuga stated.

Although the circumstances surrounding their release were yet to be disclosed as of the time of filing this report, the development has brought relief to the victims' families, residents and other Nigerians who had followed the incident with concern.

The pupils and their teachers were abducted during an attack in Orire Local Government Area, an incident that sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for improved security around schools and rural communities.

Security agencies have yet to provide details on how the victims regained their freedom or confirm whether any suspects have been arrested in connection with the abduction.
