Igogo-Ekiti Women Launch Initiative for Widows, Less Privileged

The President of Unique Ladies Club, Igogo-Ekiti, Mrs. Funmi Awoyemi-Fagbemi, has unveiled plans to make welfare of widows and other under-privileged individuals a prime factor in the club's agenda by promoting humanitarian service, youths engagement and cultural preservation among the vulnerable in the community.

Mrs. Awoyemi-Fagbemi, who is a certified accountant with Lagos State government, said the club would use the 2026 annual Igogo Ekiti day celebration as a platform to strengthen unity, honour outstanding sons and daughters of Igogo-Ekiti, encourage charity and support initiatives that improve the people's welfare.

Elaborating further, she stated that the club, which gave out some cash and material gifts to the needy between Christmas and the New Year in 2025, will extend the initiative to more people this year. 

"During such period, we will always provide food items to some elderly, widows, and the less privileged. Having seen its positive impact in the first instance, we have resolved to make it a yearly outreach programme during festive seasons, as our way of giving back to society and spreading love and hope to those in need", she stressed. 

She described the club as a socio-cultural and community development association comprising responsible and progressive women, who are committed to the growth and development of Igogo-Ekiti through selfless service and community partnership.

According to her, the association seeks to promote , unity and friendship, empower women through education and capacity building, and undertake humanitarian and social welfare programmes for the benefit of the community.

She added that the club, which is planning to participate actively in the forthcoming Igogo Ekiti day fiesta, is committed to preserving the rich cultural heritage of the town while providing support for widows, the elderly, the less privileged and other vulnerable members of society.

The president disclosed that the association would also collaborate with government agencies, community organisations and other stakeholders within and outside the country to facilitate projects that would advance the development of the town.

Advising the youth, Mrs. Awoyemi-Fagbemi urged them to embrace education, acquire relevant skills, uphold good character, respect their cultural values and shun all forms of social vices.

She encouraged young people to see themselves as worthy ambassadors of Igogo-Ekiti by contributing positively to the growth and progress of their community.

Mrs. Awoyemi-Fagbemi also appealed to well-to-do sons and daughters of Igogo-Ekiti to support developmental efforts through investments in education, healthcare, social infrastructure, youth empowerment, mentorship and humanitarian services.

She expressed confidence that with collective commitment from all stakeholders, Igogo Ekiti Day would become not only a celebration of the town's rich cultural heritage but also a catalyst for sustainable community development and lasting prosperity.
